EESL, NHAI sign MoU to Establish Clean & Energy Efficient Interventions at NHAI Establishments

EESL signs pact with NHAIOn January 8, 2021, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish Clean & Energy Efficient Interventions at NHAI Establishments.

i.EESL will set up Solar Power Projects, energy efficient LED lighting and EV Charging stations at NHAI establishments.

ii.The MoU was signed in the presence of Rajeev Sharma, Chairman, EESL & RK Pandey, Member-Projects, NHAI.

Objective:

To meet targets of increasing environment friendly clean initiatives through implementation of e-mobility services, energy efficiency & renewable energy projects.

Mission:

i.To reduce dependence on fossil fuel, reduce emissions & achieve sustainable development across Toll Plazas, highway lighting & other NHAI establishments.

ii.To help in implementation of energy efficiency projects, renewable energy projects & e-mobility services as part of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

Components of the Agreement:

i.EESL will undertake the construction of solar power projects at NHAI buildings/structures/vacant land parcels.

ii.It will also construct EV charging infrastructure works at toll plazas & buildings. It will also take up the task of supplying electric vehicles to NHAI.

iii.NHAI will also make use of Project Management Contract (PMC) services of EESL for providing energy efficient LED lighting at mutually agreed locations.

Benefits:

iv.The increasing use of EVs will reduce the local emission of pollutants, leading to clean air.

v.Availability of adequate charging infrastructure is one of the key requirements to accelerate EV adoption in India.

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL):

i.It is an Energy Service Company (ESCO) of the Government of India, and the world’s largest ESCO.

ii.100% Government owned. It is a joint venture of NTPC Limited, Power Finance Corporation, REC Limited & POWERGRID Corporation of India Limited.
