On 1st February, 2021 Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ addressed the inaugural session of 2021’s ASEAN-India Hackathon. ASEAN-INDIA Hackathon 2021 is launched by Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) in partnership with Ministry of Education (MoE).
This ASEAN-India Hackathon, a brain child of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, came as an outcome of the Singapore India Hackathon in 2019.
Participating Countries – 10 ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam) and India.
Note – Each country is participated in the Hackathon by its Nodal Agency. Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell & All India Council for Technical Education is the Nodal Agency of India.
About Minister’s Speech:
i.He highlighted the Hackathon will act as an opportunity to all participating countries, to solve the common challenges on 2 broad themes – “Blue Economy” & “Education”.
ii.The Government of India had launched 1000 ASEAN PhD Fellowships exclusively for ASEAN citizens.
iii.The National Education Policy 2020 of India, will open opportunities for the whole world.
iv.Importance of collaboration among the Nations in Education, science & technology to enact the fundamental virtues of our civilization.
v.As per Sanskrit Philosophy “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” means “The world is one family”, the event will play a positive role in ASEAN region & the world.
About 2021 ASEAN-India Hackathon:
Initiative by the Ministry of Education.
Objective – Economic development through collaboration in education, science and technology, exchange of thoughtful leadership works.
Event Duration – A 36 hours’ event conducted online from 1st – 3rd February 2021
Prize Distribution – 4th February 2021
This Hackathon will be enactment of six fundamental virtues of our civilisation: respect, dialogue, cooperation, peace, prosperity and innovation.
Area of Interest – Blue economy, agriculture, tourism, health care and medical devices, environment, education, water and smart cities and campuses (involving energy, transportation, security).
