Shri Dharmendra Pradhan launches the Malaviya MissionOn September 5, 2023, i.e. on the occasion of National Teachers’ Day 2023, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Ministry of Education (MoE) launched the Malaviya Mission – Teachers Training Programme by the University Grants Commission (UGC) at Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi, Delhi.

  • He also inaugurated the Portal of the Programme (https://mmc.ugc.ac.in/) and released its information brochure.
  • The Portal is set up by UGC for teachers interested in capacity-building programs.

Malaviya Mission – Teachers Training Programme aims to improve the quality of teachers’ training, build leadership skills in teachers and help realise the goals of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

About Malaviya Mission – Teachers Training Programme:

i.Malaviya Mission – Teachers Training Programme, the 2-week online capacity-building program, is organised by the UGC, in association with the MoE.

ii.This programme for faculty members has been designed to align with NEP 2020’s key features.

iii.The programme  focused on various themes identified for course curriculum/content for capacity building of faculty members at HEIs.

The 8 themes were

  1. Holistic and Multidisciplinary Education
  2. Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS)
  3. Academic Leadership
  4. Governance and Management
  5. Higher Education and Society
  6. Research and Development
  7. Skill Development
  8. Student Diversity and Inclusive Education and Information and Communication Technology.

Background:

i.UGC’s Human Resource Development Centres (HRDCs) supports India’s  non-technical Higher Education Institutions (HEI) working in various HEIs.

  • The thrust areas for these CPDPs are dynamic and identified by UGC in tune with NEP 2020.

ii.Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching

(PMMMNMTT), a central sector scheme launched in 2014, aims to address the issues on teacher training/ capacity building and the professional

development of faculty in HEIs and provide fund for capacity building training of faculties of HEIs.

iii.MoE has sought to strengthen the synergy and integration between HRDCs and PMMMNMTT centres to meet the objectives of NEP 2020.

iv.Considering optimal utilisation of infrastructure, human and financial resources the entire capacity building efforts was renamed and popularised as as Malaviya Mission (MM).

Madan Mohan Malaviya Teachers’ Training Centers:

111 HRDCs in HEIs have been identified Under Malaviya Mission(MM). These HRDCs will be renamed as Madan Mohan Malaviya Teachers’ Training Centers.

This will ensure continuous professional development and help in building capacities of 15 lakh teachers of HEIs through 111 Malaviya Mission centres across India in a time-bound manner.

To make our educators future-ready with a deeper understanding of Indian values, improving teacher training quality, nurturing leadership skills, and help realizing National Education Policy (NEP) goals

MoE signs MoU with Adobe to Help Children Learn AI

The MoE also inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Adobe, an American multinational computer software company, to help children learn Artificial Intelligence (AI) by developing creative expression in classrooms using the application Adobe Express.

  • Adobe Express is an application that will help students develop their creativity in a digital environment and foster new collaboration, communication and creative skills within the classroom.

More about Adobe Express:

It is an AI-driven, all-in-one content creation application equipped with generative AI capabilities, enabling users to produce various content types such as posters, animated videos, web pages, and PDFs. This tool is designed to benefit the next generation of creators, marketers, data scientists, and business leaders.

What will be done under the MoU?

i.Under this partnership, Adobe will provide free access to Adobe Express Premium and offer professional development opportunities for K-12 (Kindergarten to 12th Grade) schools across India.

ii.The curriculum, training, and certification programs related to Adobe Express tools and capabilities will empower students with the tools and resources to develop future-ready skills on creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration, while educators will be empowered with critical skills required to inspire creative classrooms.

iii.Approximately 20 million students and 500,000 teachers in India will receive training and certification in creativity and digital literacy through Adobe Express by 2027.

  • Educators will receive Adobe Creative Educators certification upon completion of training

i.On 12th July 2023, the Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved a bill amending IIM Act to include the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) in Mumbai as the 21st Indian Institute of Management (IIM).The amendment will rename NITIE Mumbai as IIM Mumbai.
