On September 14, 2020 In order to conduct a pre-feasibility study to set up a centre of excellence in the civil nuclear sector in Maharashtra, Electricite de France (EDF), The International Institute of Nuclear Energy (I2EN) and Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) has signed Memorandum of Understanding(MoU).

Aim of 3 partners

Through this MoU, EDF, I2EN and VJTI aims to work to integrate Indo-French bilateral cooperation in the field of civilian nuclear at the institutional, industrial and academia level, to enhance better industrial practices, high standards in safety and advanced training approaches.

Key Info

i.EDF is involved in the development and construction of the world’s biggest nuclear plant, with 6 EPR (European Pressurised Reactor) reactors totalling close to 10,000 MW at Jaitapur with state-run NPCIL( Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited) aims to develop a large pool of diversified skills in India to support the project.

ii.I2EN, an umbrella organisation joins French stakeholders involved in nuclear education and training.

Note

The centre of excellence will aim to develop all the capabilities required to implement the Jaitapur project in the stages of design, procurement, construction, commissioning and operational activities.

This center will provide a network platform for specific skills related to EPR technology

Jaitapur project

It is the strategic project for the Indo-French partnership. It can generate up to 75 TWh(terawatt-hours) of carbon free electricity per year by 2035. It will power an equivalent of 70 million households, avoiding the emission of 80 million tons of CO2 per year.

On January 17, 2020 the Union Minister of Law and Justice (MoL&J) Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad inaugurated the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Blockchain Technology set up by the National Informatics Centre(NIC) in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The CoE has been set up with the aim of providing blockchain as a service and help all stakeholders to benefit from shared learning, experiences and resources.
