‘E-Shram Portal’ Registers 30.48 Crore Workers nationwide; UP Leads with 8.37 Crore Registrations

E-Shram Portal World’s Largest Database of Unorganised WorkersThe E-Shram portal , the world’s largest database for unorganized workers, has recorded 30,48,02,313 (30.48 crore) registrations till December 19 2024. The portal was launched by the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoL&E) on 26th August 2021 which aims to support the unorganized workforce, vital to India’s economy.

  • It creates a National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW), verified with Aadhaar, to deliver targeted welfare schemes, social security and job opportunities.
  • A total of Rs. 704.01 crores were allocated for NDUW for the period Fiscal Year 2019-20(FY20) to FY25.
  • Registration costs are free through the E-Shram portal, Common Services Centres (CSCs) and State Seva Kendras (SSKs).

Key Features of the E-Shram Portal: 

i.Universal Account Number (UAN): Aadhaar-linked UAN provides seamless access to benefits.

Note:The 12-digit UAN is a unique identifier for an employee’s Employee Provident Fund (EPF) deposits, maintaining consistency across different employers.

ii.Simplified Registration: Requires minimal documents like Aadhaar and bank account details, with multilingual support.

iii.Grievance Redressal: Dedicated helpline for prompt resolution.

iv.Employment and Skill Integration: Links workers with job opportunities, skill training, pensions, and state-specific schemes.

v.Support for Migrant Workers: Captures family details to aid in education and women-centric schemes.

vi.Data Sharing: Facilitates collaboration with state governments and welfare boards for targeted scheme implementation.

vii.Eligibility:

  • Workers aged 16 to 59 years in the unorganized sector, including self-employed, daily wage laborers and gig workers.
  • Should possess an Aadhaar card, valid Aadhaar-linked mobile number and a bank account.
  • Should not be a member of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) and the Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).

i.Integration :

  • E-Shram Portal integrates 12 Central Government schemes like Prime Minister (PM) Awas Yojana, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and PM Gati Shakti initiative, to offer job opportunities linked to infrastructure projects for unorganised workers.
  • The portal is connected with National Career Service (NCS) providing job search facilities to unorganised workers.

ii.International Recognition:

  • The E-Shram Portal received recognition for addressing labour market challenges at the 112th International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • India showcased the portal’s role as the world’s largest database for unorganised workers at the G20 (Group of 20) Employment Working Group meeting.

iii.E-Shram One-Stop Solution:

  • E-Shram One-Stop-Solution integrates multiple social security schemes on a single platform.
