Dvara E-Dairy Solutions Pvt Ltd, a portfolio company of Dvara Holdings, in partnership with IFFCO-Tokio General Insurance Co. Ltd. (ITGI) launched an artificial intelligence (AI) powered digital identity (ID) tag named ‘Surabhi e-Tag’, to identify cattle based on muzzle identity.
Key Points:
i.Current Issue: Due to lack of tamper-proof, scalable, and unique digital identity of cattle, Cattle insurers are facing higher loss due to moral hazard. Hence accurate cattle identification has become the key requirement of cattle insurance companies.
ii.To overcome this issue, Dvara E-Dairy captures muzzle images of the cattle with the mobile phone using Surabhi mobile application and stores them in a secured cloud server as a unique digital ID.
- Muzzle is the projecting part of an animal’s face (including the nose and mouth).
ii.The Surabhi e-Tag has digital IDs with hi-resolution muzzle images of the cattle that are captured using advanced AI and Machine learning (ML) technologies.
iii.Cattle identification: The unique cattle muzzle identity could be accessed using the digital ID and retrieved anytime by the insurance companies from the cloud server within 60 seconds (shorter processing time) to compare in real time.
- Like human fingerprints, Muzzle printing/ nose printing perceives patchy traits on the muzzle of cattle hence it is being a unique identifier.
iv.Conventional methods:
- Polyurethane ear tags (PU ear tags)– it is one among the current methods that are used for identification – drawback is, it can be easily tampered with and are prone to duplication and fraud.
- Injectable Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags – these tags have details of cattle but they are expensive and require specialized skills.
