On 8th February 2021, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Science(IISc) to create Joint Advanced Technology Program- Center of Excellence(JATP-CoE) in the premises of IISc.
The MoU was signed by Dr. G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary of Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D) & Chairman DRDO and Prof Govindan Rangarajan, Director IISc at a virtual event held in DRDO Bhawan, New Delhi
Aim:
To expand the scope and objective of the existing Joint Advance Technology Program and to promote advance research.
Features of MoU:
i.Under the MoU, DRDO will support JATP to equip it with advanced and unique research facilities which will enable the faculties and scholars of IISc to conduct advanced research.
ii.DRDO will make it easier for advanced research to use technology outcomes in futuristic applications.
iii.The scientists and engineers of DRDO will work with the academic research faculty and scholars to address the challenging scientific problems and to find innovative solution in advanced areas of research like Advanced Aerospace Systems & Materials, High Temperature Materials, Micro & Nano Systems Science and Technology, Artificial Intelligence & Robotics, Quantum Technologies and others.
iv.Based on the research strength, IISc can involve the other premier institutions of India.
JATP-CoE:
JATP was created by Former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in 1983.
The scientists of DRDO actively collaborate with the faculty of IISc to work on various missile technologies.

Defence Research and Development Organisation(DRDO) will establish a research cell at Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad(IIT-H), ‘DRDO – IIT-H Research Cell’ to meet the future defence technological requirements of the country. The research cell is established as an extension of the DRDO Research and Innovation Centre (RIC), Chennai.
