Dr. Srivari Chandrasekhar appointed as Director of CSIR-IICT

Dr. Srivari Chandrasekhar was appointed as the Director of CSIR – Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) by Prime Minister  Narendra Modi, who is the president of the CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research).

He has made significant contributions in the field of organic chemistry, synthesis of active natural products and pharmaceutical products. One such achievement was the development of PEG (polyethylene glycol) which has many applications in industrial manufacturing, medicines, etc. He also invented technologies for anti-depressive compound, sertraline, Asenapine, anti-tuberculosis drug, etc.

He is presently working as Chief Scientist at the IICT since 2010.  He has more than 250 publications credited to his name, along with 5000 citations. He is also the fellow of all the three science academies in the country namely, National Academy of Sciences, Indian Academy of Sciences and Indian National Science Academy.

Dr. Chandrasekhar is also the first synthetic chemist, to be the honourable recipient of the Infosys Prize. He was awarded in 2014 in Physical Sciences category.
