On January 23, 2021 the Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar 2021 was awarded to Dr. Rajendra Kumar Bhandari under Individual category, while Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society (SEEDS) received the award under Institutional category for their contribution in disaster management.
The award is annually announced on January 23 on the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
The award was given by Government of India and it is administered by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
About Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar
Aim
The Government of India gives this award to individuals and organisations in India to recognise and honour their contribution and selfless services in the field of disaster management.
Cash Prize
- If the awardee is an institution, it will receive a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 51 lakhs. The institution should use this cash prize only for disaster management related activities.
- The individual awardee will receive a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 5lakhs.
Outstanding work of Awardees:
Dr. Rajendra Kumar Bhandari
i.He is one among those who laid the foundation of scientific studies on geo hazards in general and landslides in particular in India.
ii.He set up India’s first laboratory on landslide studies at The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), and three other centres.
iii.He has conducted many research studies on disasters in India, launched the latest technologies of Ground Penetrating Radar among others.
iv.His other contributions include, the first globally accepted explanation of undrained loading triggered landslides and the first Landslide Hazard Atlas of India, published by Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC)
SEEDS:
i.It helps make communities resilient through comprehensive interventions in the areas of disaster recovery, response, and preparedness.
ii.It uses innovative approaches and technologies as per the suitability of the particular community.
iii.It works with disaster-affected and at-risk communities for a long term.
iv.It has worked on school safety in several States.
