On October 4,2019, the union health & family welfare minister shri Harsh Vardhan launched “Trans Fat Free” logo of Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) during the 8th International Chefs’ Conference of 2019 (ICC VIII) held in New Delhi. The logo was launched to boost the ‘Eat Right Movement’ of FSSAI.
Key points
i. Slogan released: Shri Harsh Vardhan also released a slogan ‘Chefs 4 Trans Fat Free’ at the event, in which more than 1000 chefs pledged to use trans-fat free oils in their recipes and also work together to help achieve govt’s plan to eliminate trans-fat by 2022 having the motto ‘India@75; Freedom from Trans Fats’.
ii. A trans-fat free brochure, trans-fat free manifesto for chefs was released. The health minister also distributed pins to five chefs as an acknowledgement for them adopting trans-fat free recipes and felicitated 10 bakeries for using trans-fat free oils.
iii. Green purple initiative logo: Harsh Vardhan launched the Green Purple initiative logo which aims to qualify the chefs on food safety legal requirements and sustainable cooking methods, for promoting trans-fat free cooking. It is a 6-month program that will include key areas of trans-fat free cooking, using less sodium, and hygienic, seasonal, eco-friendly, less energy consuming cooking methods.
iv. Hygiene rating and right place to eat scheme: During the event, a session on FSSAI’s Hygiene Rating and Right Place to Eat Scheme was held. The Right Place to Eat Scheme is an online rating system that aims to make consumers informed about the food choices while eating out. Another session to reduce salt/sodium content in Indian diets was also held.
