On August 17, 2020, Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare; Science & Technology and Earth Sciences virtually addressed the inaugural session of the two-day long CII Public Health Conference, where he inaugurated “India Healthcare Week” with the theme “Redefining Healthcare Ecosystem” from 17th – 21st August 2020. The week has been initiated by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Ministry of Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy).
- Along with CII India Healthcare Week, a 3 year-long CII TB free workplaces campaign to ensure TB free workplace, and CII Vision Document on ‘ Strengthening Public Health Delivery – Role of Multiple Stakeholders’ were also launched.
- The TB free workplaces campaign includes a teaching app, a web portal to engage the industry and a best practices compendium.
Key Points:
-Dr Harsh Vardhan expressed confidence that the government will achieve the goal of tuberculosis (TB) free India by 2025 as resource allocation for the disease has witnessed a four-fold increase in the last five years.
-Also, the government’s boost to health infrastructure through Ayushman Bharat scheme would eradicate diseases like Kala-azar and leprosy and push the maternal mortality rate to near zero.
Participants: Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey and Member (Health) NITI Aayog Dr Vinod K. Paul, Dr Randeep Guleria, Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences in his capacity as Chairman – CII Public Health Council and Chandrajit Banerjee were also digitally present on the occasion.
