Enforcing environmental regulations strictly

Sir/Madam

This goes without saying that the notion of sustainable development depends more or less on a healthy environment. A vicious environment is an unfailing prescription of nullifying all efforts at development. No wonder government of all hues and colours across the world are busy aiming at promulgating and enforcing environmental regulation.
However, I realised an unfortunate development taking place these days. While on the agenda of poor, environment figures nowhere, on that of the well-off and the educated “looking green actually pale” is the motto. The middle class and above want to be seen ‘green’ but actually they also enjoy violating the rules of environment. They turn their deliberate away from maintaining environment clean – be it garbage disposal, use of polythene bags etc. The bottom line is that you cannot keep air clean by cutting one thousand green trees and planting a thousand saplings.
And all this is because the government is casual about enforcing the rules. Man is an easygoing creature and he will not abide by the hard rules willingly, even if it is his favour, unless he is forced to. And I strongly feel that if one of the strongest pillars of the Fourth Estate like you raise the voice, everyone will lend it a serious ear.

Thanking you for going through letter!

Your Sincerely

Dhriti Singh
