Deloitte’s Global Powers of Retailing 2022: Reliance Retail Ranked 56th & Walmart Inc Tops the List

Reliance Retail slips three spots to 56th position

According to the global consulting firm Deloitte.’s report titled “Global Powers of Retailing 2022: Resilience Despite Challenges”, Reliance Retail Limited(RRL), a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited(RIL) has ranked 56th on the list of Top 250 global retailers. 

Walmart Inc., an American multinational retail corporation, tops the list, followed by Amazon, Inc., Costco Wholesale Corporation, Schwarz Group, and The Home Depot, Inc.

  • Reliance Retail was the second-fastest-growing retailer, posting a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) growth in retail revenue of 49.4% in FY2015- FY2020. 

Highlights of the Report:

i.The total retail revenue of the Top 250 companies is USD 5.1 trillion in 2020, increasing 5.2% from 2019.

ii.The companies from North America led the list, with 78 retailers included in the Top 250, increasing by 9.2% in 2021. 

iii.The accumulated revenue of the North American companies reached around USD 2.5 trillion. 

iv.The North American region is followed by Europe which is accounting for 90 companies in the list, increasing 1.1%, with total revenue of around USD 1.7 Trillion.

v.Only 11 companies from Latin America and 10 from Africa/Middle East made it into the list, with total revenue of USD 82.2 billion, and USD 71 billion, respectively.

Asia Pacific:

i.The number of companies from the Asia Pacific(APAC) that made it into the Top 250 Global retailers increased by 2.6% to 61 during the Financial Year 2020

ii.The share of the global Top 250 revenue from retailers based in the Asia Pacific region, 15.9%, fell by 0.3% points from the previous year.

iii.China’s JD.com, Inc tops the list of companies from APAC, ranking 9th amongst the list with total revenue of around USD 94.4 billion.

iv.Japan leads the APAC region with 29 companies on the list followed by China/Hong Kong SAR (14), South Korea (5) and Australia (4). 

Fastest 50 retailers(FY2015-2020):

The top 5 fastest-growing retailers in FY2019 were Coupang of South Korea(1st), Reliance Retail Limited of India(2nd), Wayfair Inc of United States(3rd), Mobile World Investment Corporation of Vietnam(4th) and A101 Yeni Mağazacılık A.S from Turkey(5th).
