Rajnath singh launches Chhavni COVID Yodha Sanrakshan YojanaOn 1st September 2020, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched “Chhavni COVID: Yodha Sanrakshan Yojana” a group life insurance scheme through the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), for more than 10000 employees working in the military cantonment areas across India.

The insurance scheme was launched during the two-day webinar organised by the Ministry of Defence and Directorate General of Defence Estates(DGDE) to improve the implementation of Central Sponsored Schemes(CSS) in the 62 cantonments around India at delhi.

Key People:

Presidents, vice-presidents, and Chief Executive Officers(CEOs) of all the Cantonment boards along with the concerned state mission directors and Principal Secretaries in the corresponding state departments participated in the webinar.

Features of the Chhavni COVID: Yodha Sanrakshan Yojana:

i.Chhavni COVID: Yodha Sanrakshan Yojana will benefit the employees of all the 62 cantonment boards and will provide a cover of Rs.5 lakhs each in the event of any fatal misfortune.

ii.This scheme will benefit the permanent, contractual employees which includes doctors, paramedics and sanitation staff.

Key Points:

i.This webinar will enable a seamless delivery of benefits of various central sponsored schemes and to improve the overall wellbeing of around 21 lakh residents in the 62 cantonments.

ii.This will also maximise and outreach the beneficiaries of CSS in the cantonment areas.

iii.Rajnath singh also stated that there would be no gap in the implementation of the welfare schemes like Ayushman Bharat, Pradhana Mantri Awas Yojana, Smart Cities Mission, mid-day meal scheme for school children in the cantonment area.
