December 25, birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, is being observed as good governance day by the NDA government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to visit Varanasi to mark ‘Good Governance Day’. He will attend a number of programmes on the occasion of the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The central government has extended the Good Governance day essay competition for school students to 26 December after a public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in Delhi HC alleging that the competition being held on a religious holiday violated the “secular spirit of the Constitution” and the right of Christians to celebrate their religious holiday.
The Government of India has decided to confer Bharat Ratna for freedom fighter Madan Mohan Malviya and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Bharat Ratna is considered as the highest civilian award of the country.
