Defence Acquisition Council clears 10 capital acquisition proposals worth over Rs 1.05 lakh cr

In July 2025, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Ministry of Defence (MoD) approved 10 capital acquisition proposals worth approximately Rs 1.05 lakh crore under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured, IDDM) category.

  • These procurements, to be entirely sourced from Indian vendors, require at least 50% indigenous content and full domestic design and development, supporting the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative in the defence sector.
  • The clearances span the Indian Army(IA), Indian Navy(IN), and the Indian Air Force(IAF), with a key focus on boosting mobility, firepower, logistics efficiency, and maritime security.

Key Approvals:

The DAC accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for the following major procurements:

1.Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) Systems:

For: Indian Army (IA)
Worth: Around Rs 30,000 crore
Purpose: To enhance mobile air defence against aerial threats with a range up to 30 kilometres (km).
2. Armoured Recovery Vehicles (ARVs):

For: IA
Purpose: To recover and repair armoured vehicles (like tanks) in battlefield conditions.
3. Electronic Warfare (EW) Systems:

For: Indian Armed Forces(Tri-services – Army, Navy, Air Force)
Purpose: For detection, interception, and countermeasures against enemy communication and radar.
4. Integrated Common Inventory Management System (ICIMS):

For: Indian Armed Forces
Purpose: To streamline logistics, storage, and supply chain management.
5. Surface-to-Air Missiles:

For: Indian Armed Forces
Purpose: To strengthen multi-layered air defence capabilities.
6. Processor Based Moored Mine (PBMM) :

For: Indian Navy (IN)
Purpose: To prevent enemy access by securing critical maritime zones.
7. Mine Counter Measure Vessels (MCMVs):

For: IN
Quantity: 12 vessels
Worth: Over Rs 44,000 crore
Purpose: To detect and neutralise underwater mines; critical for port and naval safety.
8. Super Rapid Gun Mounts:

For: IN
Purpose: Naval artillery systems to counter aerial and surface threats.
9. Submersible Autonomous Vessels:

For: IN
Purpose: Unmanned vessels for underwater surveillance, mine detection, and anti-submarine operations.
10. Processor-Based Moored Mines (PBMM):

For: IN

Developed by: Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), MoD

Purpose: Advanced underwater mines capable of engaging surface/sub-surface threats based on pressure/acoustic detection.
