The Scheme will come into force with effect from April 1, 2017.

The trial run was successfully carried out between March 9-15 2017 during both peak and non peak hours. The 9-km-long tunnel passes through the Himalayas and is a part of the 286-km-long four-lane project on Jammu- Srinagar National Highway. It took nearly six years for the project’s completion, since the work started in May 2011. The twin-tube tunnel has been built at an elevation of 1,200 metres and at a cost of over Rs. 3,720 crore.
