Overview of India Maritime Week 2025 Held from October 27 to 31, 2025, in Mumbai, Maharashtra – Part IThe India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025, organized by Indian Ports Association (IPA) and hosted by Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW), was held from October 27 to 31, 2025, at NESCO Exhibition Centre in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

• The event was inaugurated by Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Ministry of Cooperation.
•  IMW 2025 was held under the theme titled “Uniting Oceans, One Maritime Vision”.

Highlights of India Maritime Week 2025:
Key Events: During the India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025, several key events were organized, including the 4th Global Maritime India Summit (4th GMIS), 2nd Sagarmanthan (Chintan Shivir on Ports and Shipping), Green Maritime Day (GMD), Global Maritime CEO Forum (GMCEF), QUAD Ports of the Future Partnership (QPFP), and the UNESCAP Dialogue — United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) Asia-Pacific Regional Dialogue on Sustainable Maritime Development.
PM Modi Participation: On October 29, 2025, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi chaired the Global Maritime Chief Executive Officer(CEO) Forum, the flagship event of the IMW 2025, aimed at building a sustainable, resilient, and future-ready maritime ecosystem aligned with Government of India (GoI)’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision (MAKV) 2047.
Initiatives launched:During the event, the government unveiled a Rs.2.2 lakh crore (≈ USD 26 billion) investment plan involving 437 new vessel orders, aimed at boosting India’s maritime strength and global competitiveness.
NMHC Logo: During the event, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, MoPSW, launched the logo of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC).
Maritime Excellence Achievers Awards 2025: Deendayal Port Authority(DPA), Kandla (Gujarat), won multiple awards including Port Sustainability Pioneer and Driving Maritime Innovation, while Paradip Port Authority(PPA), Paradip (Odisha) received the Best Exhibit Award for Future Port Concept.

Overview of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Gujarat on October 30 to 31, 2025Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited Gujarat on October 30 to 31, 2025, to attend the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Celebrations, marking the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (Iron Man of India) in Ekta Nagar, Kevadia(Gujarat).

• During his visit, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several development projects worth over Rs 1,140 crore, dedicated to the state.

Key Projects:
Flagging off E-buses: He flagged off 25 new electric(e)-buses worth Rs.30 crore, increasing the fleet to 55 electric buses that provide free transport services for tourists in Ekta Nagar
Infrastructure Projects: Later, PM Modi inaugurated various newly completed projects including the GSEC &SSNL Quarters, constructed at a cost of Rs 56.33 crore; Birsa Munda Bhavan (worth Rs 303 crore); the Hospitality District (Phase-I) (built at a cost of Rs 54.65 crore) at Garudeshwar, among others.
Developmental Projects: During his visit, he also laid the foundation stone for 10 major development projects like: the Museum of the Royal Kingdoms of India (Rs 367.25 crore); Visitor Centre (Rs 140.45 crore); Veer Balak Udyan (Rs 90.46 crore); Travelator Extension at the Statue of Unity (Rs 27.43 crore); 24-metre-wide Ekta Nagar Colony Road (Rs.22.29 crore), Jetty Development (Rs.12.50 crore), Central Industrial Security Force(CISF) Barracks (Rs.3.48 crore), Jetty near Shoolpaneshwar Temple (Rs.12.50 crore), and the Rain Forest Project (Rs.12.85 crore) and Sports Complex (Rs 23.60 crore).
Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Celebrations: On October 31 2025, PM Narendra Modi participated in the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations and paid floral tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

• During the celebrations, PM Modi administered the Ekta Diwas Pledge and witnessed the Ekta Diwas Parade in Ekta Nagar.

UIDAI Launches ‘Aadhaar Vision 2032’ Framework to Secure Digital Identity EcosystemThe Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) launched the “Aadhaar Vision 2032” a comprehensive strategic and technological roadmap aiming to future-proof India’s Aadhaar digital identity system for the next decade in October 2025.

• The initiative aims to update the strategy and technology of Aadhaar to be in line with the changing laws and new technological developments.

Union MoS George Kurian Launches Marine Fisheries Census 2025 & Digital Apps ‘VyAS–BHARAT’ & ‘VyAS–SUTRA’In October 2025, Union Minister of State (MoS) George Kurian, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying(MoFAH&D) launched the 5th Marine Fisheries Census (MFC 2025) Household Enumeration along with two digital mobile applications(apps) ‘Village-Jetty Appraisal Navigator(VyAS)–BHARAT’ and ‘VyAS–SUTRA’  at the Indian Council for Agricultural Research(ICAR)-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI)in Kochi, Kerala.
About MFC 2025 Household Enumeration :
MFC 2025: It marks a shift from paper-based surveys to a fully digital, paperless, and geo-referenced census, using mobile/tablet apps and geo-tagging for data collection.
Theme: “Smart Census, Smarter Fisheries”
Duration: The core household data collection will be carried out over 45 days, from November 3 to December 18, 2025, across India’s coastal states and union territories.
Coverage: The MFC 2025 will encompass about 1.2 million fisher households across 5,000 marine fishing villages and habitations in 13 coastal States and Union Territories(UTs), including the Andaman & Nicobar(A&N) Islands and Lakshadweep.
Applications: It is powered by a suite of multilingual Android apps developed by ICAR–CMFRI, including:

• VyAS–NAV: For validation of fishing villages and harbors.
• VyAS–BHARAT: For household and infrastructure enumeration.
• VyAS–SUTRA: For real-time supervision and monitoring of households and enumerators.

India to Host MILAN 2026, IFR, and IONS Conclave of Chiefs in Visakhapatnam, AP in February 2026
In October 2025,In October 2025, the Indian Navy(IN) announced that Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh(AP), will host three major international maritime events: International Fleet Review (IFR) 2026, Exercise MILAN 2026, and the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) Conclave of Chiefs, from February 15 to 25, 2026.

• This will be the first time India hosts all three flagship naval events simultaneously.

Event Highlights :
IFR 2026: It is scheduled for February 18, 2026, with President Droupadi Murmu reviewing the participating ships. It will be India’s third IFR and the first to showcase the indigenous Indian Naval Ship(INS) Vikrant and Kalvari-class submarines, reflecting India’s growing naval prowess.
Exercise MILAN 2026: It is a biennial multilateral naval exercise conducted under the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) of the IN.

• It will include harbour-phase activities such as sharing best practices and professional exchanges, along with sea-phase operations focusing on anti-submarine warfare, air defence, and maritime search & rescue.

IONS Conclave of Chiefs: It will bring together naval chiefs from member and observer nations to discuss key issues like maritime security, humanitarian assistance & disaster relief (HADR), and information-sharing frameworks.

India-funded Multi-ethnic Trilingual School Inaugurated in Sri Lanka
On October 31,2025, a multi-ethnic trilingual secondary school funded by the Government of India(GoI) was inaugurated in Polonnaruwa District, Sri Lanka.

• The school was jointly inaugurated by Harini Amarasuriya, Minister of Education of Sri Lanka, and Santosh Jha, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka.

About the Trilingual School:
Implementation: The project, implemented under India’s flagship High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP) initiative, highlights India’s commitment to promoting inclusive education and community development in Sri Lanka.
Fund: The initiative was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in February 2017, and the school was constructed with a grant of over Sri Lankan Rupees (LKR) 320 million from the GoI.
Tri -Lingual: Designed to serve students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, the school provides education in Sinhala, Tamil, and English, promoting social cohesion and multicultural understanding.
Capacity Building: Sri Lanka, in partnership with India, will introduce training programmes for teachers and education administrators to improve professional skills and adopt global best practices in education.

AXISCADES Technologies and France’s Cilas S.A. Signs MoU to Develop C-UAS Drone System
In October 2025, AXISCADES Technologies Limited, an Indian defence technology solutions provider, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with France-based Cilas S.A., a pioneer in laser technologies, to jointly develop and promote advanced Counter-Unmanned Aerial System (C-UAS) drone system for the Indian Armed Forces.

About AXISCADES–Cilas Collaboration:
Aim: The partnership aims to integrate Cilas’ Helma-P laser system into vehicle-mounted defense platforms to boost India’s counter-drone capabilities.
Design: Under the agreement, AXISCADES will design the overall system architecture customized to meet the specific requirements of the Indian Army(IA).
Joint Development: The collaboration includes co-developing a vehicle-mounted C-UAS, integrating the Helma-P high-energy laser into AXISCADES’ indigenous command and control system.
Alignment: The collaboration aligns with India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, with plans to localize manufacturing and maintenance of the system in India.

City Union Bank Secured USD 50 Million from IFC to Promote Green MSME Financing
In October 2025, City Union Bank (CUB) received a USD 50 million commitment from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank(WB) Group, to boost green financing and help Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to adopt energy-efficient and sustainable practices.

About the Loan:
Objective: To support MSMEs in adopting energy-efficient and cost-effective solutions that foster sustainable growth and contribute to low-carbon emissions.

L&T Partners with GA-ASI to Manufacture MALE drones in India
In October 2025, Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) entered into a strategic partnership with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. (GA-ASI), the United States of America(USA)-based global leader in Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), to manufacture Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) in India for the Indian armed forces.

Details of L&T–GA-ASI Strategic Partnership:
87 MALE RPAS: This collaboration supports the Ministry of Defense’s (MoD) plan to induct 87 MALE RPAS, aimed at enhancing India’s surveillance, reconnaissance, and precision-strike capabilities.
Roles of Institutions: Under the agreement, L&T will act as the prime bidder, while GA-ASI will serve as the technology partner, providing advanced drone technologies and system integration expertise.
MQ-series: The drones to be produced belong to GA-ASI’s globally renowned MQ-series RPAS family, which includes platforms such as Predator, MQ-9A Reaper, MQ-1C Gray Eagle, MQ-20 Avenger, and MQ-9B Sky Guardian and Sea Guardian. These drones have demonstrated proven performance across global surveillance and combat missions
Significance: The partnership supports Atmanirbhar Bharat by boosting defense self-reliance, strengthening Indo–USA defense ties, promoting technology transfer, and developing India’s aerospace manufacturing base.

Zen Technologies Secures Anti-Drone System orders worth Rs 289 Crores from MoD
In October 2025, Zen Technologies Limited secured two contracts worth around Rs 289 crore from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to upgrade and modernize anti-drone systems, with execution scheduled within one year.

Details of Order:
Aim: The contracts aim to strengthen India’s Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) capability, enhancing the nation’s readiness against rising
Improvise: The upgraded systems will improve detection, tracking, and neutralization of hostile drones through advanced indigenous solutions.
AI enabled Radar System: Zen Technologies will integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled radar systems, RF sensors, and electronic jamming modules to increase precision and rapid response capability.
Aligns with: The initiative aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant defense) vision, promoting domestic innovation and manufacturing in the C-UAS domain.

MoHFW Achieved 3 Guinness World Record Titles under Women’s Health Campaign SNSPAIn October 2025, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has achieved 3 Guinness World Record titles under the ‘Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan (SNSPA)’, a health and empowerment campaign for women and children in India.

• The Guinness World Record recognition showcases India’s unified effort through government initiatives, digital health innovation, and community participation toward the vision of “Healthy Women, Empowered Families, and Viksit Bharat.”

Guinness World Records Achieved:
Maximum Registration: The campaign has set the record of the highest number of people to register for a healthcare platform in a single month i.e. to over 3.21 crore.
Maximum screening for breast cancer: More than 9.94 lakh people had signed up for breast cancer screening online in one week.
Maximum screening for vital signs: Over 1.25 lakh people had signed up for vital signs screening online in one week (at state level).
About SNSPA: On September 17 2025, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi launched this nationwide campaign, which was concluded on October 02, 2025.

Lucknow from UP, Designated as UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy under UCCNOn October 31, 2025, on the occasion of World Cities Day(WCD), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) designated Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh, UP), the city of nawabs, as a ‘Creative City of Gastronomy’ under the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN).

• The announcement was made during the ‘43rd session of UNESCO’s General Conference’ held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, placing Lucknow among 70 global gastronomy hubs.
• With this recognition, Lucknow became the second Indian city after Hyderabad (Telangana) to receive this title under the UCCN.

UNESCO Expands Creative Cities Network in 2025 with 58 New Members:
UCCN: It was established in 2004 to promote cooperation among cities that recognize creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development.
Creative Field: In 2025, for the first time, the UCCN expanded its scope by introducing ‘Architecture’ as a new creative field, joining its seven existing fields Crafts and Folk Arts, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Arts, and Music.
New Designations (2025): In 2025, UNESCO designated 58 cities as new members of the UCCN, bringing its total membership to 408 cities from over 100 countries.

• The 2025 cohort of newly designated Creative Cities includes Kisumu (Kenya) and New Orleans (USA) for Music; Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) for Design; Matosinhos (Portugal) and Cuenca (Ecuador) for Gastronomy; Giza (Egypt) for Film; Rovaniemi (Finland) for Architecture; Malang (Indonesia) for Media Arts; and Aberystwyth (United Kingdom) for Literature.

First Observance: The first-ever WVD was observed on 1 November 1994.
World Vegan Month: Celebrated every November since 1994, it begins with World Vegan Day (November 1) to honour the vegan community and its global contributions.
Significance:
Origin of the Term: The term “vegan”, coined in 1944 by Donald Watson,an English animal rights activist and co-founder of the Vegan Society.

• It was derived from the first and last letters of “vegetarian”, symbolizing a step beyond vegetarianism.

Significance of the Date:November 1 was chosen as it falls between Halloween (October 31) and Day of the Dead (November 2), traditional times of feasting and celebration.

2025 Theme: “Chat GBV: Raising Awareness on AI-facilitated Gender-Based Violence against Women Journalists”
 Focus: The theme focused on the rising digital threats against women journalists, addressing Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) such as Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven deepfakes, gendered disinformation, and online harassment.

About “Chat GBV”: It is a call to action aimed at combating Gender-Based Violence (GBV), particularly Technology-Facilitated GBV (TFGBV) targeting women journalists.
Background:
Adoption: On 18 December 2013, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted Resolution A/RES/68/163, proclaiming 2 November as the IDEI.
First Observation: The first IDEI was observed on 2 November 2014.
Why November 2? The date was chosen to honor French journalists Ghislaine Dupont (57) and Claude Verlon (55) of Radio France Internationale (RFI), who were assassinated on 2 November 2013 in Mali.
2025 Event: On 2 November 2025, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) organized the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists 2025 as a Category IV International Congress in Paris, France in a virtual format.
