Cabinet Approved Rs 1,500 Crore Incentive Scheme to Promote Critical Mineral RecyclingIn September 2025, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, has approved Rs 1,500 crore incentive scheme, designed to promote recycling capacity for extracting and producing critical minerals from secondary sources.

  • This newly approved scheme, part of the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM), which is aimed at strengthening India’s domestic capacity and supply chain resilience.

Key Details of the Scheme:
Tenure: This new incentive scheme will span over a period of 6 years from Financial Year 2025-26 (FY26) to FY31.
Eligible Livestock: The eligible livestock feedback will cover e-waste, Lithium-ion Battery (LIB) scrap, and other categories such as catalytic converters from end-of-life vehicles.
Beneficiaries: Both established recyclers and new entrants, including start-ups, will be eligible entities to avail the benefits of the scheme.

  • Also, 1/3rd (33.33%) of total budget outlay of the scheme are reserved for smaller entities.

MoE, MoWCD Launches Guidelines to Co-Locate Anganwadi Centres with SchoolsOn September 3, 2025, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Ministry of Education (MoE), and Union Minister Annapurna Devi, Ministry of Women & Child Development (MoWCD), jointly launched the ‘Guidelines for Co-location of Anganwadi Centres with Schools’ at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, Delhi.

  • The guidelines have been developed by the Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSE&L), MoE, in collaboration with MoWCD.

About Co-Location Guidelines:
Objectives: The key objectives of the guidelines are to facilitate school preparedness and a seamless transition from Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) to Grade 1 in Primary schools, to foster linkages between AWCs and primary schools to create joyful and stimulating learning environments.
Co-location Models:The guidelines outline two models for co-locating Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) with schools:

  • Physical Co-location: Where infrastructure permits, AWCs will operate within school premises.
  • Mapping to Nearby Schools: In areas with limited facilities, AWCs will be linked to the nearest school.

Integration: The guidelines integrate the NIPUN(National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy) Bharat Mission, a foundational literacy and numeracy upskilling initiative, MoE, with Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi, an initiative of MoWCD.

DPIIT Partners with ICICI Bank and Pfizer to Boost Startups and Healthcare Innovation in IndiaOn September 4, 2025, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry(MoC&I), partnered with ICICI Bank to support startups and with Pfizer Limited,subsidiary of American Multinational Pharmaceutical Pfizer Inc., to boost India’s healthcare innovation ecosystem, providing resources, mentorship, and growth opportunities.
DPIIT Partners with ICICI Bank:
Objective: The collaboration aims to foster growth of product-based startups by providing mentorship, accelerator access, and structured engagement to support business development, product refinement, and operational scale-up.
Design and Implementation: ICICI Bank will design and implement the Startup Engagement Programme, which will be hosted on the Startup India portal.

India’s First Vulture Conservation Portal Launched in Assam
In September 2025, We Foundation India, a Non-Profit Organisation(NPO), in collaboration with the Department of Zoology, Gauhati University, Assam, launched India’s first dedicated vulture conservation portal, The Vulture Network, in Guwahati, Assam.

India’s CAD Reduced to USD 2.4 Billion in Q1 FY26 : RBI DataIn September 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released data showing that India’s Current Account Deficit (CAD) reduced to USD 2.4 billion (0.2% of Gross Domestic Product, GDP) in the first Quarter(April-June) of the Financial Year 2025-26 (Q1 FY26).

  • This marked a reversal from the USD 13.5 billion surplus (1.3% of GDP) recorded in Q4 FY25 and USD 8.6 billion or 0.9% of GDP in Q1 FY25.
  • The narrowing of CAD was driven by robust net services earnings, higher remittance inflows, and greater inflows from foreign portfolio investment (FPI) and external commercial borrowings (ECBs).

Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI): Net FPI inflows increased to USD 1.6 billion, up from USD 0.9 billion in FY25.
External Commercial Borrowings (ECBs): Net inflows from ECBs rose significantly to USD 3.7 billion, compared with USD 1.6 billion in Q1 FY25.
Foreign Exchange Reserves: India’s foreign exchange reserves increased by USD 4.5 billion on a Balance of Payments (BoP) basis in Q1 FY26.
Merchandise Trade: The merchandise trade deficit widened to USD 68.5 billion in Q1 FY26, up from USD 63.8 billion in Q1 FY25.
Services Trade: Net services receipts grew to USD 47.9 billion, compared with USD 39.7 billion in FY25, supported by strong performance in computer and business services.
Remittances: Private transfer receipts, mainly remittances from Indians working abroad, increased to USD 33.2 billion from USD 28.6 billion in Q1 FY25.
Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Deposits: Net inflows of NRI deposits stood at USD 3.6 billion, slightly lower than USD 4.0 billion in Q1 FY25.
Primary Income: Net outgo on the primary income account, which includes investment income payments, rose to USD 12.8 billion in Q1 FY26, from USD 10.9 billion Q1 FY25.

In September 2025, Invesco Mutual Fund (MF) has secured the approval from Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to transfer a controlling 60% stake in its Indian operations to IndusInd International Holdings Limited (IIHL), investment arm of Hinduja Group.

  • This acquisition is expected to expand Invesco’s presence in India beyond the current 40 Indian cities.

Israel Launched Spy Satellite ‘Ofek 19’ to Expand its Surveillance Capability throughout Middle-EastIn September 2025, Israel has successfully launched a spy satellite called Ofek 19’ into the designated orbit atop a Shavit rocket from Palmachim Airbase, located south of Tel Aviv in Israel.

  • This latest development will bolster Israel’s surveillance capacity across the Middle-East region.

TESS Mission Discovers 2 New Rocky Exoplanets ‘TOI-2322 b’ and ‘TOI-2322 c’
On September 3, 2025, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced that its Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission had discovered two rocky, Earth-sized exoplanets orbiting the nearby K-type star TOI-2322, situated approximately 195 light-years from Earth.

  • The two newly discovered planets, TOI-2322 b and TOI-2322 c, are classified as super-Earths and are rocky, short-period exoplanets.
