  • For FY27, the OECD has revised India’s GDP growth forecast downward by 0.6% points, projecting a growth rate of 6.4%.
  • The report was published as delegations from member states and partners, including India, gathered for an informal World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial-level meeting in Paris.

India Scenario:
i.The projection is supported by robust private consumption, fueled by rising real incomes, recent tax reliefs, and an improving labour market.

ii.The projections indicate that India is set to retain its position as the fastest-growing economy among G20 nations, despite prevailing global uncertainties.
iii.The headline inflation is projected to average 4.1% in FY26 and 4.0% in FY27.

  • According to the report, the inflation expectations remain well anchored, and wage pressures are expected to remain contained with the economy projected to grow around potential, suggesting limited demand-driven inflation pressures.

Global Scenario:
OECD has forecasted that global growth will decline from 3.3% in 2024 to a modest 2.9% in 2025 and in 2026, mainly due to weakened economic prospects, lower growth and less trade.
