Dr. Jitendra Singh Announced Selection of 8 Pioneering Startups under NQM and NMICPSIn November 2024, Union Minister of State (MoS) (Independent Charge, IC) Dr. Jitendra Singh, Ministry for Science and Technology (MoS&T) announced the selection of 8 pioneering StartUps for support under the Department of Science and Technology (DST)’s newly framed guidelines.
- These startups were selected under the National Quantum Mission (NQM) and the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NMICPS).
i.The Defence Research and Development Organisaton (DRDO) Industry of Academia-Centre of Excellence (DIA-CoE), IIT Delhi achieved a significant milestone in secure communication with the successful demonstration of various quantum communication technologies in New Delhi, Delhi.
- These demonstrations were primarily focused on Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), a cutting-edge method of encrypting information without being detected.

India-Singapore bilateral military exercise ‘Agni Warrior 2024’ held in MaharashtraThe India-Singapore bilateral military exercise ‘Agni Warrior (XAW-2024)’ was held at the Devlali Field Firing Ranges in Maharashtra from November 28 to November 30. This annual exercise is part of the ongoing defense collaboration between the two nations and aims to enhance cooperation and interoperability between their artillery units.
- The 13th edition of Joint Military Exercise intends to showcase joint firepower planning and execution, utilizing New Generation Equipment by the artillery arms of both armies.
Background:
i.The Agni Warrior Exercise conducted under the Army Bilateral Agreement between India and Singapore since 2004.
ii.The exercise comprised extensive joint preparation and field training. Personnel from both armies collaborated on multiple operational aspects.
iii.The 12th Edition of Exercise Agni Warrior held at Field Firing Ranges, Devlali in 2022.
About Agni Warrior 2024:
i.The aim of XAW-2024 was to maximise mutual understanding of drills and procedures to achieve jointness as a multinational force under the United Nations(UN) Charter.
ii.The exercise showcased joint firepower planning, execution and use of New Generation Equipment by the Artillery of both Armies.
iii.The exercise involved the exchange of best practices and advanced techniques, enhancing operational understanding and strengthening mutual trust between the Indian Army and Singapore Armed Forces.
Participants:
i.Indian Army(IA): 114 personnel from the Regiment of Artillery.
ii.Singapore Armed Forces(SAF): 182 personnel from the Singapore Artillery.
Objective :
i.To enhance interoperability and understanding of artillery drills and procedures between the two armies.
ii.To refine artillery planning processes and conduct academic discussions on modern artillery trends.
iii.To promote mutual trust and regional stability, reaffirming the commitment of both countries to secure a peaceful future.
India-Singapore Relations:
i.As both countries approach 60 years of diplomatic relations in 2025, their defense ties have deepened.
ii.The 6th India-Singapore ‘Defence Ministers Dialogue’ held in New Delhi (Delhi) in October 2024 led to agreements aimed at strengthening defense cooperation, including a 5-year extension of the bilateral joint military training agreement.

DoCA Launched e–Daakhil Portal Nationwide to Streamline Consumer Grievance Redressal ProcessIn November 2024, the Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA), Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution(MoCAF&PD) announced that the “e-Daakhil portal “has been launched successfully across all States and Union Territories (UTs) of India.
- This milestone is achieved following the launch of e-Daakhil portal by Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) in Ladakh on 22nd November 2024, making the portal a truly pan-India initiative.
Note: As on 31st December 2023, e-Daakhil portal was launched in 35 states/UTs except Ladakh.
About e-Daakhil:
i.It was 1st introduced on 7th September, 2020 by the National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (NCDRC), as an innovative platform designed to streamline the consumer grievance redressal process.
- It was introduced as an inexpensive, speedy and hassle-free mechanism for filing consumer complaints due to restrictions imposed on consumers during the COVID-19.
ii.It provides an efficient and convenient way for consumers to approach the relevant consumer forums, eliminating the need for physical appearances at those forums.
iii.It offers an intuitive and easy-to-navigate interface, which enables the consumers to file their complaints, help them to keep track of the status of their complaints and make payments.
iv.It ensures a paperless and transparent process with respect to filing cases like: any consumer or advocate can file a complaint through this portal, from anywhere.
Points to Note:
i.At present, over 2.81 lakh users have registered on the e-Daakhil portal, and 1, 98,725 cases have been filed on the portal out of which 38,453 cases have been disposed of.
ii.The Government of India (GoI) is planning to introduce “e-Jagriti”, a new initiative designed to automate filing, tracking, and management of consumer cases. It will ensure a hassle-free experience for consumers and other stakeholders.

India’s 1st Indigenous Antibiotic, Nafithromycin, Launched to Combat AMR
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced the soft launch of India’s first indigenous antibiotic Nafithromycin developed by Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company, Wolkardt with support from “Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council” (BIRAC), a unit of the Department of Biotechnology, to combat Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
- This innovation was designed to treat Community-Acquired Bacterial Pneumonia (CABP), a severe illness caused by drug-resitant bacteria, promising 10x efficacy with just a 3 day regimen, offering a safer and faster solution than existing antibiotics.
- This drug will be brought to market under the brand name “Miqnaf”. This antibiotic targets on typical and atypical pathogens. Clinical trials conducted across the (United States) U.S., Europe, and India validated its safety and effectiveness.
i.India, accounting for 23% of the global pneumonia burden, faces challenges with drug resistant pathogens. Nafithromycin addresses these concerns with minimal side effects and no significant drug interactions, marking a critical step against AMR, which prolongs illnesses and raises healthcare costs.
ii.This milestone reflects India’s rising innovation in biotechnology, supported by a Rs 500 crore investment and 14 years of research, positioning India as a global leader in healthcare advancements.
Dr. Jitendra Singh Unveils AI Data Bank to Propel Innovation and Strengthen National Security
In November 2024, Union Minister of State(Independent Charge, IC) Dr.Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science and Technology(MoS&T) launched India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) data bank at the 7th Edition of the ‘Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India(ASSOCHAM) AI Leadership Meet 2024’ in New Delhi(Delhi).
- The event was held under the theme “AI for India: Advancing India’s AI Development – Innovation, Ethics, and Governance,” showcased India’s strategic roadmap for harnessing the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
i.This initiative aims to accelerate technological growth and innovation by providing researchers, startups, and developers access to high-quality, diverse datasets essential for creating scalable and inclusive AI solutions.
ii.The data bank will also enhance national security by enabling real-time analytics for disaster management, cybersecurity, and defense.

THE’s inaugural “Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025”: Anna University Topped among all Indian Universities; MIT Ranked 1st GloballyAccording to Times Higher Education (THE)’s inaugural “Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR) 2025”, Anna University in Chennai, Tamil Nadu (TN)has topped among all Indian universities featured on the list and secured 42nd position globally with overall score 66.1.
- It is the only Indian university which featured among the top 50 universities of the list.
i.New York (the United States of America (USA)-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has secured 1st spot in the rankings with overall score of 92.4, followed by Stanford University (the USA) and National University of Singapore (NUS) (Singapore) ranked at 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
ii.India with 65 universities has emerged as the most represented country on the list. However, no Indian institute/ university featured among the top 10 as well as top 20 universities in the rankings.
iii.As per the rankings, top 100 universities on the list are from all 6 continents, which is led by Asia continent with 47 institutions from 15 countries, followed by Europe (24); North America (17), Africa (5), Oceania (4) and South America (3).

ADB & Mastercard Signed MoU to Boost MSME Financing across Asia-Pacific RegionOn 28th November 2024, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Mastercard Impact Fund, administered by the Mastercard Centre for Inclusive Growth have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch a transformative partnership which aimed to enhance Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) financing across the Asia-Pacific region.
- Under this partnership, Mastercard will give USD 5 million grant from its Impact Fund to Financial Institutions (FIs), to boost lending towards MSMEs in the region, with special focus on women-led enterprises and climate financing among all small businesses.
- This grant will help to unlock USD 1 billion in ADB financing for a period of 4 years.
Key Points:
i.According to the MoU, the partnership will initially focus on 7 countries from the region: Georgia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
- Also, minimum 50% of total funding will be allocated to women-led businesses and climate-related projects over the next 4 years.
ii.The financial support given under this partnership will be used to provide risk-reduction capital, performance-based incentives, and capacity building for FIs.
iii.The MSMEs in Asia-Pacific region face significant financing shortfall, with nearly 50% of them are either unserved or underserved by FIs, resulting in credit gap estimated at USD 2.5 trillion.

Tata Power and Bhutan’s DGPC to Develop 5,000 MW Clean Energy Projects in Bhutan
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has entered a strategic partnership with Thimphu, Bhutan based Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) to develop 5,000 Megawatt (MW) of clean energy capacity, including 4,500 MW of hydropower and 500 MW of solar power in Bhutan.
- This collaboration aims to harness Bhutan’s significant hydropower potential while addressing energy demands in both India and Bhutan.
- The hydropower projects includes: 1,125 MW Dorjilung HEP (Hydroelectric plant); 740 MW Gongri Reservoir; 1,800 MW Jeri Pumped Storage and 364 MW Chamkharchhu IV will be developed in phases.
- Additionally, TPREL will oversee the development of 500 MW of solar projects.
i.The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Thimphu, Bhutan between Tata power and DGPC in the presence of Bhutan’s Prime Minister (PM) Dasho Tshering Tobgay and India’s Ambassador to Bhutan.

i.CCI has approved Jongsong Investments Pte. Ltd.’s acquisition of shares in Rebel Foods Private Limited, involving the subscription to compulsorily convertible preference shares and the purchase of equity shares.
ii.CCI has approved MUFG Bank, Ltd.’s acquisition of additional securities in DMI Finance Private Limited, increasing its shareholding to 20%.
iii.CCI has approved Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited’s acquisition of the unsecured personal loans portfolio worth Rs 4100 crore from Standard Chartered Bank, India Branch.
iv.CCI has approved Shoreline International Holdings LLC’s investment in Flipkart Private Limited through a share subscription, along with an arrangement for service provision between an affiliate of Shoreline and Flipkart’s subsidiary.

IN tests 3,500-km K-4 nuclear missile from INS Arighaat SubmarineOn 28th November 2024, the Indian Navy (IN) successfully tested the K-4 nuclear-capable ballistic missile from its newly commissioned submarine, INS Arighaat.
- The K-4, with a range of 3,500 km, is an upgrade over the K-15 missiles used on INS Arihant, which have a range of 750 km.
Key Points:
i.INS Arighaat, India’s 2nd nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, was commissioned in August 2024 and is equipped with advanced Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)-developed technology.
- The submarine has 4 launch tubes capable of carrying 12 K-15 Sagarika Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) with a range of 750 km or four K-4 SLBMs with a range of 3,500 km.
iii.The test strengthens India’s nuclear triad, with land, air, and sea-based capabilities.
- The land vector includes Prithvi-II (350km), Agni-I (700km), Agni-2 (2,000km), Agni-3 (3,000km) and Agni-5 (over 5,000km).
- The air vector comprises Sukhoi-30MKI, Mirage-2,000, Jaguar and Rafale fighter.
iv.India’s sea-based deterrence is reinforced by INS Arihant and INS Arighaat, with the third, INS Aridhaman, set to be commissioned in 2025.
v.Future missile developments include the K-5 and K-6, with ranges of 5,000-6,000 km.

China launched world’s 1st ‘self-driving’ satellitesIn November 2024, China successfully launched the world’s first ‘self-driving’ satellites developed by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (SAST), a subsidiary of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), marking a milestone in the country’s commercial space programme. It was the 547th flight mission of the Long March series of rockets.
- The two satellites, named Siwei Gaojing-2 03 and Gaojing-2 04, were launched aboard a Long March-2C carrier rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre(JSLC) in northwest China.
- The satellites will provide high-resolution, all-day, all-weather radar imagery.
About the self-driving Satellites:
i.These satellites have been designed to maintain or change their flight paths without ground intervention and revolutionise surveying and mapping in the space sector.
ii.The SAST-developed satellites bring advanced capabilities to space exploration and are equipped with Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology and high-precision radar payloads, enabling them to:
- Automatically return to orbit with an unprecedented accuracy of 100 metres(m).
- Perform formation coordinated fly around at sub metre precision.
iii.These features significantly reduce the need for ground-based operations, enhancing safety and simplifying satellite control.
iv.The satellites’ high-quality images assisted in updating China’s surveying and mapping databases, monitoring agricultural output, and environmental management.
Points to Note:
i.The Gaojing-2 03 and Gaojing-204 satellites are integral to the Siwei commercial remote sensing constellation project, approved by CASC in April 2022.
ii.It aims to establish a network of at least 28 satellites to provide comprehensive Earth observation data for various industries and applications.
iii.The constellation will be fully operational by 2025 and follows a series of advancements in China’s space programme, including the Ludi Tance 4-01, the world’s first geosynchronous orbit SAR satellite launched in August 2023.
Note:The country has announced that it will launch a satellite with a humanoid robot to the moon in 2028.

India Gets Hosting Rights for 2026 Asian Rifle and Pistol CupThe National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) announced that the executive committee of the Asian Shooting Confederation (ASC) has awarded the hosting rights for 2026 Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup to India.
- This competition is set to take place in New Delhi, Delhi in 2026.

i.India has previously hosted the 8th Asian Air Gun Competition in 2015 and the Asian Olympic Qualifier in 2016.

International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People 2024 – November 29The United Nations (UN’s) International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is annually observed across the globe on 29th November to provide a platform for the global community to reaffirm its commitment to the Palestinian people’s dignity, rights, justice, and their right to self-determination.
Background:
i.On 2nd December 1977, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the resolution A/RES/32/40 B, declaring 29th November of every year as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
ii.The first-ever International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People was observed on 29th November 1978.

Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio inaugurated Economic Empowerment InitiativesIn November 2024 , Nagaland’s Chief Minister (CM) Neiphiu Rio inaugurated a series of landmark initiatives at the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland(IDAN), Capital Convention Centre, Kohima (Nagaland) to improve the state’s tourism, transport, agriculture and entrepreneurial sectors.
- The CM launched Ura Cabs, a homegrown taxi aggregation platform designed to offer seamless travel experiences for tourists and for local taxi operators.
- The CM also flagged off the newly branded tourism vehicles under the Nagaland Tourism Connect Scheme, marking the culmination of extensive tourism training programs ahead of the 25th Hornbill Festival which will be celebrated from 1st – 10th December 2024 at Kisama, Nagaland.
Key Initiatives:
i.Digital Piggery Insurance was developed in collaboration with the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) and Tata AIG General Insurance Company Limited, an app-based system that simplifies registration and claim processing for livestock farmers for address the challenges.
ii.The Nagaland Logistics Connect initiative was also introduced to enhance the state’s transportation and logistics infrastructure.
- Entrepreneurs can avail a 12% manufacturer discount on vehicle procurement and up to a 42% subsidy through the CM’s Microfinance Initiative (CMMFI).
iii.CM’s Universal Life (UL) Insurance Scheme was designed to safeguard families from unforeseen tragedies, further underscoring the government’s commitment to social and financial security.
iv.These initiative provides financial security but also exemplifies inclusivity by empowering farmers in the most remote areas while highlighting the partnership between the Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission and the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department.

i.The Hornbill Festival is a 10 day annual tourism conceptualised in 2000, an event organised by the State Government to showcase Nagaland’s rich and traditional cultural heritage in all its ethnicity, diversity and grandeur.
- The Theme of the Hornbill Festival 2024 is “Cultural Connect”.
ii.Dubbed as the “Festival of Festivals”, this event provides a unique platform for visitors to witness the Naga cultural diversity.
