PM Narendra Modi Launches ‘Bihar Rajya Jeevika Nidhi Saakh Sahkari Sangh Limited’ to empower women entrepreneursIn September 2025, the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated ‘Bihar Rajya Jeevika Nidhi Saakh Sahkari Sangh Limited (BRJNSSSL)’, a new cooperative initiative aimed at providing affordable credit to rural women entrepreneurs.

  • During the event, PM Narendra Modi initiated the institution’s operations by transferring Rs.105 crore into its bank account of  Jeevika Nidhi.

Background:
Jeevika: Launched in 2007 with financial support from the World Bank (WB),  JEEViKA programme is the largest state-level initiative dedicated to empowering women from economically disadvantaged rural households in Bihar.

  • The Government of Bihar implements the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project (BRLP), popularly known as JEEViKA, through the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society (BRLPS), an autonomous body under the Department of Rural Development.

Financial Empowerment: While entrepreneurship has grown among women in Jeevika’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs), many of these entrepreneurs continue to rely on microfinance institutions (MFIs) that charge high interest rates ranging from 18% to 24%.

  • To address this, the Jeevika Nidhi was introduced as an alternative financial system, aimed at reducing reliance on MFIs while providing larger loans at lower interest rates in a timely manner.

About Bihar Rajya Jeevika Nidhi Saakh Sahkari Sangh Limited (BRJNSSSL):
Objective: The Jeevika Nidhi has been established to ensure community members under Jeevika have timely access to credit at affordable interest rates, thereby strengthening financial inclusion and liquidity support.

  • All registered cluster-level federations of Jeevika will become the members of the Society.

Funds: The Bihar government has sanctioned a total of Rs.1,000 crore for the new cooperative, providing a robust financial foundation to support women-centric outreach programs in Bihar.
Digitisation: The system will function entirely through a digital platform, enabling faster and more transparent fund transfers directly into the bank accounts of Jeevika Didis.

  • For this purpose, 12,000 community cadres are being equipped with tablets to strengthen digital operations and service delivery.

Impact: The initiative aims to strengthen entrepreneurship among rural women and boost the growth of community-led enterprises.

APEDA Launched BHARATI Initiative to Support 100 Agri-food StartupsIn September 2025, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) works under the Department of Commerce (DoC), Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), launched its new initiative, ‘Bharat’s Hub for Agritech, Resilience, Advancement and Incubation for Export Enablement (BHARATI)’, aimed to promote India’s agri-food exports.

  • This new initiative was launched on the sidelines of the ‘Food & Beverages Sector Stakeholders Meeting’, chaired by the Union Minister Piyush Goyal, MoC&I.

About BHARATI Initiative:
Purpose: It is designed to support 100 agri-food and agri-tech startups, promote innovation and generate new export opportunities for young entrepreneurs.
Target: APEDA has set the target to achieve USD 50 billion in agri-food exports for its Scheduled Products by 2030.
Focused Area: This newly launched initiative seeks to promote innovation in high-value categories like: Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged agri-products, organic foods, superfoods, novel processed Indian agri-foods, livestock products, and AYUSH(Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, and Homoeopathy) products.
1st Phase: The 1st pilot cohort of the initiative, started in September 2025, will support 100 startups, including high-value agri-food producers, technology-driven service providers and innovators.

20th Global Sustainability Summit Held in New DelhiThe 20th Global Sustainability Summit (GSS), organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry-ITC Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Sustainable Development(CII-ITC-CESD), was held from September 02 to 03, 2025 in New Delhi, Delhi.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh Launches Mobile App Kapas Kisan in New Delhi
On September 2, 2025, Union Minister Giriraj Singh, Ministry of Textiles (MoT), launched Kapas Kisan, a mobile application(app), developed by the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI), MoT, to digitize the procurement of cotton under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme.

In September 2025, the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Coomunication, in collaboration with Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) under Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and The Indus Entrepreneurs Delhi-National Capital Region (TiE Delhi-NCR), launched the ‘Samarth Incubation Program – Cohort II’ in New Delhi, Delhi.

  • The program is aimed at supporting DeepTech startups in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Cybersecurity, Light Fidelity (LiFi), Blockchain, and other emerging technologies.

AQLI 2025 Report: India’s Average Life Expectancy Reduces by 3.5 YearsIn August 2025, the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC) has released the ‘Air Quality Life Index (AQLI) 2025 Report’. As per the report, Air Pollution has emerged as the most severe health threat in India, reducing the country’s average life expectancy by 3.5 years .

  • This projection is based on the finding that all regions of India are exposed to annual average Particulate Matter (PM 2.5) levels which stood at 41 micrograms per cubic metre (µg/m³) in 2023, exceeding the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended limit of 5 µg/m3.

Loss in Life Expectancy: Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) emerged as the worst hit Indian state by air pollution, with residents facing a loss of 8.2 years in life expectancy; followed by Bihar (5.6 years lost); Haryana (5.3 years lost) and Uttar Pradesh (UP) (5 years lost).
World’s Most Polluted Region: As per the report, South Asia is the world’s most polluted region as particulate pollution in this region has increased by 2.8% (in 2023) after a brief dip in 2022.

MHA Extended CAA Registration Cut-Off Date Till December 31, 2024
In September 2025, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has extended the cut-off date for entry into India for applying under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA), till December 31, 2024, from its previous cut-off date of December 31, 2014.

UPI Transactions Crossed 20 Billion for First Time in August 2025
In September 2025, the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance (MoF) and National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) announced that India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) operated by NPCI crossed 20 billion monthly transactions for the first time in August 2025.

BOB Launches Collateral-Free Digital Financing Scheme ‘bob Digi Udyam’ for MSEs
On September 3, 2025, Bank of Baroda (BoB) has unveiled its new ‘bob Digi Udyam’ platform a fully digital, collateral-free lending scheme exclusively designed for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs).

Highlights of 48th Annual General Meeting of RIL, Reliance Intelligence LaunchedOn August 20, 2025, the 48th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), chaired by Mukesh Ambani, Chairman & Managing Director (CMD), Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), was held virtually via Video Conferencing and Other Audio-Visual Means (OAVM) in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Highlights of the Meeting:
Artificial Intelligence:
Reliance Intelligence: During the meeting, Mukesh Ambani announced the launch of Reliance Intelligence Private Limited (Reliance Intelligence), an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-focused arm of RIL, with an aim to build sovereign, enterprise-grade AI infrastructure and services across sectors.
Partners: Reliance Intelligence has partnered with Google to establish a dedicated Google Cloud region in Jamnagar (Gujarat), powered by the clean energy infrastructure of Reliance and connected through Jio network.

  • Reliance Intelligence has also partnered with Meta (formerly Facebook) to form a 70:30 Joint Venture (JV) worth Rs.855 Crores (approximately USD 100 million) in which Reliance will hold 70% stake and Meta 30% to deploy open-source AI models, particularly Llama models of Meta, for enterprise-grade AI services.

AI Products:
JioPC: The meeting witnessed the announcement of AI-powered products such as Jio Personal Computer (JioPC), a cloud-based virtual Personal Computer (PC), that transforms a Television (TV) or screen into an AI-ready computer.

  • It operates through a Jio set-up box, with a keyboard and mouse, where the applications, storage, and processing are hosted on Jio’s cloud. It offers Pay-as-you-go model, through which a user pays a monthly fee to access computing power through the cloud, eliminating the need to buy a laptop or desktop.

FIEO Signs MoU with BRISKPE to Enable Secure and Efficient Cross-Border Payments
On September 3, 2025, the Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO), the apex trade promotion body representing Indian exporters, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BRISKPE, a fintech company, to facilitate faster and compliant cross-border payments for Indian exporters.

  • The MoU was signed by Dr. Ajay Sahai, Director General (DG) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), FIEO, and Indunath Chaudhary, Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer (COO), BRISKPE, in the presence of Pratik Navale, Nodal Officer, FIEO, at Niryat Bhawan in New Delhi, Delhi.

RBI Approves Reappointment of R Gandhi as Non-Executive Chairman of Yes BankIn September 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved the reappointment of Rama Subramaniam Gandhi as non-executive Chairman of Yes Bank Limited with effect from September 20, 2025. His tenure will run until May 13, 2027, with remuneration sanctioned by the RBI.

  • He was first appointed as the Part-time Chairman of Yes Bank in September 2022, for a three-year tenure.

RRI Develops ‘PRATUSH’ to Detect Cosmic Dawn Signals
In September 2025, the Raman Research Institute (RRI), under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science & Technology(MoS&T), has developed ‘Probing ReionizATion of the Universe using Signal from Hydrogen(PRATUSH)’, a compact radiometer designed to detect the faint 21-centimeter(cm) hydrogen signal from the Cosmic Dawn.

Technology: It features a compact Single-Board Computer (SBC)-based digital receiver, built on Raspberry Pi technology, will coordinate the antenna, receiver, and a Field-programmable Gate Array (FPGA) chip that will process streams of cosmic radio data.
Significance: Performance tests on a reference signal over 352 hours demonstrated that PRATUSH can reduce noise to just a few millikelvins(mK), highlighting its high sensitivity.

  • The design also minimizes weight, power consumption, and complexity.

India Tops Medal Tally at 2025 Commonwealth Weightlifting ChampionshipsThe 30th Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2025, which also included the 25th Commonwealth Senior Championships, concluded at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, Ahmedabad, Gujarat from 24th to 30th August 2025.

  • The championship was organised by the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF) with support from the Sports Authority of Gujarat and the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.

Mirabhai Chanu: The Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medallist won gold in the Women’s 48kg category, lifting a total of 193 kg

  • Her victory secured direct qualification for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Koyel Bar: Won a gold medal in the Junior Women’s 53kg category.
