PM Narendra Modi Addressed the RSS Centenary Celebrations in New Delhi, DelhiOn October 1, 2025, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi addressed the celebration of the 100th year of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as the Chief Guest at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi, Delhi.

• The event also marked the release of a commemorative postage stamp and a coin of Rs.100, featuring an image of “Bharat Mata” on an Indian currency for the first time.

About RSS:
Overview: RSS was established on September 27, 1925, in Nagpur (Maharashtra) by Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar (also known as Dr. K.B. Hedgewar), as a volunteer-based organization, with an aim to promote Hindutva (Hindu cultural nationalism), social cohesion, discipline, and national pride among Hindus.
Significance: In the 1940s, RSS was active in social reform and relief during India’s independence movement. Its function expanded into education, health, and cultural programmes in the post-independence era.

• Its goal is the “Sarvangeena Unnati” (all-round development) of India.

Commemorative Coin and Postage Stamp:
Coin Details: The Rs.100 commemorative coin weighs 40 grams (g), measures 44 millimeters (mm) in diameter, and is made of 99.9% silver with 200 serrations.

• The coin features Lion Capital of Ashoka, the national emblem on the obverse (front) and depicts Bharat Mata in Varada Mudra, a gesture of blessing, seated on a lotus with a lion beside on the Reverse (Back).

Postage Stamp: It features the participation of RSS swayamsevaks in the 1963 Republic Day Parade, symbolizing the historic role of RSS in national service and patriotism.

UPSC Entered 100th Year of Service: Launched ‘My UPSC Interview’ Portal and Unveiled New Logo and Centenary EmblemOn October 01 2025, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) entered its centenary (100th) year marking a major milestone for India’s civil services.

• As part of its centenary celebrations, Dr. Ajay Kumar, Chairman of UPSC has launched the dedicated anecdote portal ‘My UPSC Interview: From Dream to Reality’; unveiled new logo and centenary logo, on the occasion of 99th foundation day celebrations of UPSC held in New Delhi, Delhi.

My UPSC Interview Portal:  Through this new portal, UPSC invites civil servants, both serving and retired, to share their experiences of appearing before the UPSC Interview Board.

• The interested individuals are required to submit their applications by December 31, 2025.

New Logo: The new logo of UPSC features national emblem at its centre, representing authority and service to the nation. It is surrounded by a wreath of banyan leaves which symbolizes wisdom and resilience.

• The logo reinforces the ethos of accountability and duty, is anchored by a ribbon inscribed with ‘Sangh Lok Seva’ in ‘Hindi’ language.

Centenary Logo: The logo features wave motif which signifies the UPSC’s journey over a century: progressive, enduring, and adaptive, culminating in the final ‘0’ of ‘100’, where the UPSC logo rests.

Cabinet Approvals on October 01, 2025In September 2025, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, has approved the  following proposals:
MSP for Rabi Crops for 2026-27 Marketing Season:
Approval : The CCEA approved higher MSP for six key rabi crops(Wheat, Barley, Gram, Lentil, Rapeseed & Mustard, Safflower) to provide better returns to farmers and promote crop diversification.
MSP Rates: Wheat – Rs.2,585/quintal; Barley – Rs.2,150/quintal; Gram – Rs.5,875/quintal, Lentil (Masur) – Rs.7,000/quintal, Rapeseed & Mustard – Rs.6,200/quintal and Safflower- Rs.6,540/quintal
Highest MSP increase: The cabinet has approved the absolute highest increase in MSP for Safflower at Rs 600 per quintal.
Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses:
Approval: The Cabinet approved a six-year initiative named ‘ Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses’ with a financial outlay of Rs.11,440 crore to achieve self-sufficiency in pulses production.

• This newly approved mission was initially announced by Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Ministry of Finance (MoF) in the Union Budget for FY26.

Key Target: The GoI has set the target to increase the production of pulses from 24.2 million tonnes(MT) (in 2024-25) to 35MT (by 2030-31).

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Launches NIELIT Digital University Platform in New DelhiOn October 2, 2025, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Ministry of Railways (MoR), launched the ‘NIELIT Digital University (NDU)’, operated by the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), in New Delhi, Delhi.

• The NDU, a digital platform for advanced technology education, is designed to democratize access to high-quality digital learning.

Highlights of the event:
NIELIT Centres: During the event Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually inaugurated five new NIELIT Centres in places such as Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Balasore (Odisha), Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh, AP), Daman in the Union Territory (UT) of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (DNHDD), and Lunglei (Mizoram).
MoUs signed: NIELIT signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with industry leaders to co-create training programs. It includes:

• Microsoft for digital skilling and education technologies
• Zscaler, a cloud security company, for cybersecurity programs
• Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), for technology integration in health and wellness education
• Dixon Technologies (Dixon Tech), for electronics and manufacturing training
• Future Crime for cybercrime and security training.

Panel Discussion: Following the launch event, a panel discussion was held on the theme “Role of AI in Digitalization of Education”.

DPIIT Signs MoU with Thermo Fisher Scientific to Bolster India’s Biotechnology Startup Ecosystem
On October 1, 2025, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Thermo Fisher Scientific (TFS), a global leader in life sciences tools and services, to accelerate innovation in biotechnology (biotech) startup ecosystem in India.

Details of DPIIT-Thermo Fisher MoU:
Support: The MoU aims to support over 500 biotech startups in the three years through strategic advisory, technology access, mentorship, and investor connect.
Initiatives: Under the MoU, TFS and Bharat Startup Grand Challenge (BSGC) of DPIIT will launch BioVerse, a platform to support the biotech entrepreneurs in India. The challenge includes:

• BioVerse Challenge, identifying and supporting 100 top biotech startups with mentorship, providing access to Research and Development (R&D) facilities, and investor connections.
• BioVerse Mentors Circle, to train and guide 400 additional startups in biotech skills and entrepreneurship.
• BioVerse Alumni Network offers ongoing mentorship, coaching, and funding opportunities for startups participating in the challenge.

Significance: The collaboration supports Startup India and boosts DPIIT’s drive for biotech innovation and entrepreneurship.

TASL, Airbus to Establish India’s First Private FAL in Vemagal, Karnataka
On October 1, 2025, Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Airbus announced the establishment of India’s first private-sector Final Assembly Line (FAL) in Vemagal(Karnataka), to manufacture the Airbus H125 helicopter, marking a significant step in enhancing the indigenous aerospace manufacturing capabilities of India.

• This will be Airbus’ second assembly plant with TASL in India, after the C295 transport aircraft unit in Vadodara, Gujarat.

About India’s first private-sector FAL:
Vemagal Facility: The assembly line is situated in the Vemagal Industrial Area and will include Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities and helipads for final testing.
Timeline: The facility is slated to commence production in 2026, with the first India-assembled H125 helicopter scheduled for delivery in 2027.
Market Reach: The plant will cater to domestic and regional markets, with the potential for exports across South Asia.
Alignment: . It aligns with “Make in India”, an initiative by the Government of India (GoI) to reduce reliance on imports.
H125 helicopter:  The single-engine H125 helicopter is versatile, serving civil aviation, defence, police, disaster management, and high-altitude operations.

Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Madaviya Launched ‘MY Bharat’ Mobile App
In October 2025, Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) and Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoL&E), has launched the ‘MY Bharat’ Mobile Application (App), during an event held in New Delhi, Delhi.

• The newly launched mobile app is part of the MY Bharat platform, an online youth leadership and social engagement initiative of the Department of Youth Affairs (DoYA), MYAS.

About MY Bharat Mobile App:
Developed by: The new mobile app is designed and developed by the Digital India Corporation (DIC) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
Key Features: The new mobile app enables youth to participate in the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue (VBYLD) 2026 Quiz.

• The app provides youth with easy access to volunteering, internships, mentorship, and learning opportunities; available in Hindi and English, with more languages coming soon.

Integration: : Common Services Centres (CSCs) are linked with the MY Bharat portal, enabling rural youth to register, take part in the VBYLD Quiz, and explore platform opportunities.
Key Progress: Since its launch on Oct 31, 2023, over 1.81 crore youth and 1.20 lakh organisations have joined the MY Bharat platform.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurates IGL’s Office & Smart Gas Meter plant in New Delhi
In September 2025, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas(MoPNG), inaugurated the new office of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) at the World Trade Centre(WTC) in Nauroji Nagar, New Delhi(Delhi).

• During the event, he also launched a state-of-the-art Smart Gas Meter Manufacturing facility, established through a Joint Venture(JV) between IGL and Genesis Gas Solutions.

About Smart Gas Meter Manufacturing Facility
Aim: The initiative aims to bolster India’s self-reliance in gas meter manufacturing and enhance the efficiency and affordability of gas services provided by IGL.
Production Capacity:This facility is set to produce approximately 1 million gas meters annually, including smart and prepaid variants, with production commencing in October 2025.
Sector Growth:India’s petroleum and natural gas sector over the past decade, noting the expansion of LPG connections from 14 crore in 2014 to over 33 crore in 2025, and the growth of the natural gas pipeline network from 14,000 kilometre(km) to over 22,500 km.

BANKING & FINANCE

Highlights of RBI’s 4th Bi-monthly Monetary Policy FY2025-26The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conducted the 57th and 4th Bi-monthly Monetary Policy Committee Meeting (MPC) of Financial Year (FY) 2025-26 from September 29 to October 1,2025 under the chairmanship of Shri Sanjay Malhotra, Governor, RBI.

• The meeting was attended by the MPC members Dr. Nagesh Kumar, Shri Saugata Bhattacharya, Prof. Ram Singh, Dr. Poonam Gupta and Shri Indranil Bhattacharyya.

RBI retains repo rate at 5.5%, Maintains ‘Neutral’ stance:
Rate unchanged: All the MPC members voted unanimously to keep the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) unchanged at 5.5%.

• Consequently, the standing deposit facility (SDF) rate shall remain unchanged at 5.25% and the marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the bank rate at 5.75%
• The MPC also decided to continue with the neutral stance.

Reason: The MPC observed that inflation has moderated; however, since the effects of earlier monetary policy actions and recent fiscal measures are still transmitting through the economy, it considered it prudent to await greater clarity before undertaking further action.

ADB Approved USD 190 Million Loan for Indore Metro Rail ProjectIn October 2025, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a USD 190 million loan for the development of Indore Metro Rail Project, aimed to enhance urban mobility, reduce pollution, and promote inclusive growth in Madhya Pradesh (MP).

• The project will be implemented by Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) and is expected to operationalise by January 2030.

About Indore Metro Rail Project:
Purpose: The metro rail project will provide financial support for the construction of an 8.62 kilometre (km)-long underground metro line with 7 stations, connecting congested areas of Indore to the airport.
Key Benefits: The metro, designed with advanced features, will incorporate accessibility elements like: ramps, lifts Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance, and emergency response systems, for the elderly, women, children, and persons with disabilities.
Significance: The project is projected to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, by an estimated 12,414 of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) equivalent annually.

• Apart from environment significance, the project which includes multimodal integration with existing bus and feeder services will provide easy access to educational institutions and markets.
• Also, ADB will collaborate with existing Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) technical assistance to improve TOD planning and policy of Indore city.

Capgemini Appointed Sanjay Chalke as India CEO
In October 2025, Capgemini SE, French multinational company providing digital and consulting services,  has announced the appointment of Sanjay Chalke as new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Capgemini in India.

• Sanjay Chalke will take over as Capgemini India’s CEO from January 1, 2026, succeeding Ashwin Yardi, who will retire as CEO and become the company’s non-executive Chairman.

Experience: Over 25 years in the industry, with a background in leading delivery transformation initiatives for global clients.

India, Sri Lanka to co-host inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup Cricket for the Blind
India and Sri Lanka are set to co-host the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup – Cricket for the Blind from November 11 to November 23, 2025.

• It was announced in Colombo(Sri Lanka) in the presence of Sri Lanka’s Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage, officials from the Sri Lanka Cricket Association for the Visually Handicapped, and representatives of the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI).

About Women’s T20 World Cup Cricket for the Blind 2025:
Organizers: The CABI and Sri Lanka’s Cricket Association for the Visually Handicapped are leading the organization of the tournament.
Teams & Format:The tournament will feature teams from Australia, England, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the United States of America(USA), competing in 21 league matches, two semi-finals, and the final.
Venues:The opening leg will take place in New Delhi(Delhi), followed by Bengaluru(Karnataka), with the concluding matches and closing ceremony scheduled in Colombo.

OBITUARY

Padma Awardee & Vocalist Pandit Chhannulal Mishra Passed AwayOn October 2, 2025, Padma Vibhushan Awardee and Classical Vocalist Pandit Chhannulal Mishra passed away at the age of 89 in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh (UP). He was born on August 3, 1936, at Hariharpur in Azamgarh, UP.

• He was conferred the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award, in 2010 and Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award, in 2020, for his contributions in the field of art.

About Pandit Chhannulal Mishra:
Musical Lineage: He was trained under his father Badri Prasad Mishra and later received training from renowned musicians, SShambhu Bhattacharya and Ustad Ghani Khan of the Kirana Gharana, a tradition of Hindustani classical music.
Career: He represented the Banaras Gharana tradition of Hindustan classical music, known for bringing folk flavour and emotional depth into classical ragas and semi-classical genres.

• He specialized in Purab Ang Gayaki, a style rooted in UP and Bihar.

Classical Music: He established himself as a Banaras Gharana stalwart, known for pure classical, Khyal, and semi-classical such as Thumri, Dadra, Kajri, Hori, Chaiti.

• He mentored several disciples who continued his Purab Ang Gayaki.

Recognition: He was affectionately hailed as the “Voice of Banaras” for his soulful renditions and deep connection to the city’s musical heritage.
Awards : He received the awards such as Naushad Award in 1995, Bihar Sangeet Shiromani Award in 1999 and UP Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2000 from the UP government.

• In 2010, he was conferred the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award by the Sangeet Natak Akademi.

Veteran Socialist & Freedom Fighter Dr. G.G. Parikh Passed Away
On October 2, 2025, Eminent socialist and Freedom fighter Dr. Gunvantri Ganpatlal (G.G) Parikh passed away at the age of 101 in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

• He was imprisoned during the Emergency period from 1957 to 1977 for his activism.

About G.G. Parikh:
Inspiration: G.G. Parikh, born in 1924, was deeply inspired by Gandhian philosophy and the ideals of social justice and non-violence from his young age.
Quit India Movement: In 1942, he joined the Quit India Movement, actively resisting British rule. His participation led to imprisonment for 10 months, reflecting early courage and commitment to India’s independence.
Social Work: He founded the Yusuf Meherally Centre (YMC) at Panvel in Raigad (Maharashtra), focusing on rural development, education, and empowering marginalized communities.

• YMC promoted self-sufficiency, skill development, and Gandhian values, helping the local communities.
• In 1947, he served as the President of the Bombay Unit of the Students’ Congress.

International Day of Non-Violence 2025 – October 2The United Nations(UN’s) International Day of Non-Violence is observed annually across the world on October 2, Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday, honoring his philosophy of peace and non-violence.  In India, October 2 is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti.

• October 2, 2025, marks the 156th birth anniversary of Gandhi and the 19th International Day of Non-Violence.

Background:
UN Establishment: The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) established the day through resolution A/RES/61/271 on June 15, 2007, following a proposal by Iranian Nobel Laureate Shirin Ebadi in June 2004.

•  It reinforces the vital message: “Say No to Violence.”

First Observation: The day was first observed on October 2, 2007.
Observance: The day is observed along with Swachh Bharat Diwas.
About Mahatma Gandhi:
Birth: Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, studied law in London, the United Kingdom(UK)  before emerging as a key leader in India’s struggle for independence.
Leadership: Often called the “Father of the Nation”, Gandhi’s influence on India and the world is profound and enduring.
Non-Violence: During the Dandi March (1930) and the Quit India Movement (1942), Mahatma Gandhi demonstrated that moral force could mobilize millions without using weapons.
Philosophy: His principles of non-violence (Ahimsa) and truth became the cornerstone of his activism.
Death:Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948 in New Delhi by Nathuram Godse during a multi-faith prayer meeting at Birla House (Gandhi Smriti).

Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2025 – October 1 to 31Breast Cancer Awareness Month(BCAM), observed annually across the globe from October 1 to 31 to raise awareness, encourage early detection, support patients, and promote research for prevention and treatment.

• 2025 Theme: “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters.”

Background:
Origins: Breast Cancer Awareness Month began in October 1985 through a partnership between the American Cancer Society and pharmaceutical company Imperial Chemical Industries.
Global Recognition: October is celebrated worldwide as “Pink Month” to promote breast cancer awareness.
Symbol: The pink ribbon, a universal symbol of breast cancer awareness, represents hope, courage and support.

• The pink ribbon became a breast cancer awareness symbol in the early 1990s in the United States of America(USA), gaining wide recognition in 1992 through campaigns by Estée Lauder and Self Magazine.
