UPSC Entered 100th Year of Service: Launched ‘My UPSC Interview’ Portal and Unveiled New Logo and Centenary EmblemOn October 01 2025, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) entered its centenary (100th) year marking a major milestone for India’s civil services.

  • As part of its centenary celebrations, Dr. Ajay Kumar, Chairman of UPSC has launched the dedicated anecdote portal ‘My UPSC Interview: From Dream to Reality’; unveiled new logo and centenary logo, on the occasion of 99th foundation day celebrations of UPSC held in New Delhi, Delhi.

My UPSC Interview Portal:  Through this new portal, UPSC invites civil servants, both serving and retired, to share their experiences of appearing before the UPSC Interview Board.

  • The interested individuals are required to submit their applications by December 31, 2025.

New Logo: The new logo of UPSC features national emblem at its centre, representing authority and service to the nation. It is surrounded by a wreath of banyan leaves which symbolizes wisdom and resilience.

  • The logo reinforces the ethos of accountability and duty, is anchored by a ribbon inscribed with ‘Sangh Lok Seva in ‘Hindi’ language.

Cabinet Approvals on October 01, 2025In September 2025, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, has approved the  following proposals:
MSP for Rabi Crops for 2026-27 Marketing Season:
Approval : The CCEA approved higher MSP for six key rabi crops(Wheat, Barley, Gram, Lentil, Rapeseed & Mustard, Safflower) to provide better returns to farmers and promote crop diversification.
MSP Rates: Wheat – Rs.2,585/quintal; Barley – Rs.2,150/quintal; Gram – Rs.5,875/quintal, Lentil (Masur) – Rs.7,000/quintal, Rapeseed & Mustard – Rs.6,200/quintal and Safflower- Rs.6,540/quintal
Highest MSP increase: The cabinet has approved the absolute highest increase in MSP for Safflower at Rs 600 per quintal.
Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses:
Approval: The Cabinet approved a six-year initiative named ‘ Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses’ with a financial outlay of Rs.11,440 crore to achieve self-sufficiency in pulses production.

  • This newly approved mission was initially announced by Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Ministry of Finance (MoF) in the Union Budget for FY26.

Key Target: The GoI has set the target to increase the production of pulses from 24.2 million tonnes(MT) (in 2024-25) to 35MT (by 2030-31).

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Launches NIELIT Digital University Platform in New DelhiOn October 2, 2025, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Ministry of Railways (MoR), launched the ‘NIELIT Digital University (NDU)’, operated by the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), in New Delhi, Delhi.

  • The NDU, a digital platform for advanced technology education, is designed to democratize access to high-quality digital learning.

Highlights of the event:
NIELIT Centres: During the event Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually inaugurated five new NIELIT Centres in places such as Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Balasore (Odisha), Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh, AP), Daman in the Union Territory (UT) of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (DNHDD), and Lunglei (Mizoram).
MoUs signed: NIELIT signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with industry leaders to co-create training programs. It includes:

  • Microsoft for digital skilling and education technologies
  • Zscaler, a cloud security company, for cybersecurity programs
  • Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), for technology integration in health and wellness education
  • Dixon Technologies (Dixon Tech), for electronics and manufacturing training
  • Future Crime for cybercrime and security training.

Panel Discussion: Following the launch event, a panel discussion was held on the theme “Role of AI in Digitalization of Education”.

DPIIT Signs MoU with Thermo Fisher Scientific to Bolster India’s Biotechnology Startup Ecosystem
On October 1, 2025, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Thermo Fisher Scientific (TFS), a global leader in life sciences tools and services, to accelerate innovation in biotechnology (biotech) startup ecosystem in India.

TASL, Airbus to Establish India’s First Private FAL in Vemagal, Karnataka
On October 1, 2025, Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Airbus announced the establishment of India’s first private-sector Final Assembly Line (FAL) in Vemagal(Karnataka), to manufacture the Airbus H125 helicopter, marking a significant step in enhancing the indigenous aerospace manufacturing capabilities of India.

  • This will be Airbus’ second assembly plant with TASL in India, after the C295 transport aircraft unit in Vadodara, Gujarat.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurates IGL’s Office & Smart Gas Meter plant in New Delhi
In September 2025, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas(MoPNG), inaugurated the new office of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) at the World Trade Centre(WTC) in Nauroji Nagar, New Delhi(Delhi).

  • During the event, he also launched a state-of-the-art Smart Gas Meter Manufacturing facility, established through a Joint Venture(JV) between IGL and Genesis Gas Solutions.

BANKING & FINANCE

Highlights of RBI’s 4th Bi-monthly Monetary Policy FY2025-26The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conducted the 57th and 4th Bi-monthly Monetary Policy Committee Meeting (MPC) of Financial Year (FY) 2025-26 from September 29 to October 1,2025 under the chairmanship of Shri Sanjay Malhotra, Governor, RBI.

  • The meeting was attended by the MPC members Dr. Nagesh Kumar, Shri Saugata Bhattacharya, Prof. Ram Singh, Dr. Poonam Gupta and Shri Indranil Bhattacharyya.

RBI retains repo rate at 5.5%, Maintains ‘Neutral’ stance:
Rate unchanged: All the MPC members voted unanimously to keep the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) unchanged at 5.5%.

  • Consequently, the standing deposit facility (SDF) rate shall remain unchanged at 5.25% and the marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the bank rate at 5.75%
  • The MPC also decided to continue with the neutral stance.

Reason: The MPC observed that inflation has moderated; however, since the effects of earlier monetary policy actions and recent fiscal measures are still transmitting through the economy, it considered it prudent to await greater clarity before undertaking further action.

ADB Approved USD 190 Million Loan for Indore Metro Rail ProjectIn October 2025, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a USD 190 million loan for the development of Indore Metro Rail Project, aimed to enhance urban mobility, reduce pollution, and promote inclusive growth in Madhya Pradesh (MP).

  • The project will be implemented by Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) and is expected to operationalise by January 2030.

  • Apart from environment significance, the project which includes multimodal integration with existing bus and feeder services will provide easy access to educational institutions and markets.

Padma Awardee & Vocalist Pandit Chhannulal Mishra Passed AwayOn October 2, 2025, Padma Vibhushan Awardee and Classical Vocalist Pandit Chhannulal Mishra passed away at the age of 89 in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh (UP). He was born on August 3, 1936, at Hariharpur in Azamgarh, UP.

  • He was conferred the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award, in 2010 and Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award, in 2020, for his contributions in the field of art.
