Indian Railways and SBI Sign MoU to Enhance Insurance Coverage
On September 1, 2025, Indian Railways (IR) and the State Bank of India (SBI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance insurance benefits for railway employees, especially frontline Group C workers and others, maintaining salary accounts with SBI.
- The MoU was signed in the presence of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Ministry of Railways (MoR), along with Satish Kumar, Chairman of Railway Board, and C.S. Setty, Chairman of SBI.

SEBI Revised Rules for Intraday Index Options Effective from October 01, 2025
In September 2025, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has introduced a revised framework to monitor intraday trading positions in index options, aimed to enhance transparency and strengthen risk management in the derivative markets.
- As per SEBI’s circular, the new rules for intraday monitoring norms will come into effect on October 01, 2025, while the penalty provisions related to expiry-day breaches will be effective from December 06, 2025.

Gross Intraday Position Limit: The gross intraday position remains at Rs 10,000 crore per entity, in line with the current end-of-day gross limit.
Atleast 4 Random Snapshots: SEBI has directed all stock exchanges in India, to conduct minimum 4 random checks of traders’ positions during the trading session.
- They are also required to undertake one of these snapshots between 2:45 pm to 3:30 pm; a period when trading activity typically peaks.
- Also,the position value will be determined using the index price at the time of the snapshot.
Penalties: SEBI has also clarified that the entities breaching the limits outlined in the new framework will be subject to scrutiny by the stock exchanges.
- This may include providing explanations for the trades, reviewing any trading activity in the underlying index stocks, among others.
- In addition to these, breach of the limits on the day of contract derivative expiry could lead to penalties or additional surveillance deposits.
Submitting SOP: Market Infrastructure Institutions (MIIs), including stock exchanges and clearing corporations, have been directed to publish a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for market participants.
- They are also required to submit this SOP to SEBI within 15 days and communicated to market participants before the new framework is enforced.

Origin: World Coconut Day is initiated by the Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC), an intergovernmental organization representing coconut-producing countries.
First Celebration: The first World Coconut Day was celebrated in 2009.
Significance: September 2 marking the foundation day of the International Coconut Community (ICC), an intergovernmental organization of coconut-growing countries established in 1969 under the aegis of UNESCAP.
2025 Events: On September 2, 2025, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare(MoAFW) virtually inaugurated the national-level World Coconut Day celebrations organized by the Coconut Development Board (CDB) at Angamaly, Kerala.

AP Govt Signs MoU with Tech Bharat Foundation for India’s First AI CoE in Visakhapatnam
On September 1, 2025, the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Government of Andhra Pradesh (AP), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tech Bharat Foundation to establish India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Visakhapatnam, AP.

About India’s 1st AI CoE:
Objectives: The key objectives include co-creating AI tools aimed at improving Government-to-Citizen (G2C) services, addressing governance issues through proof-of-concept projects, hosting a National AI Fellowship Program, where fellows directly work with government departments to develop AI prototypes.
AI Fellowship program: The inaugural 120-day AI Fellowship program has been launched, inviting applications until 4 September 2025 from individuals with skills in Python and Machine Learning (ML).
Stipend: The fellows will receive a monthly stipend of Rs.25,000, residential accommodation, access to advanced AI infrastructure, mentorship from industry experts, and opportunities for direct collaboration with government departments.
