Overview of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Gujarat from August 25 to 26, 2025Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited Gujarat from August 25 to 26, 2025, to inaugurate, lay foundation and dedicate various development projects worth Rs.5,400 crores at Ahmedabad and Hansalpur in Gujarat.

  • The inaugurations encompass investments across railways, roads, power, housing, urban infrastructure, and digital governance.

Highlights of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Gujarat:
Railways:  PM Narendra Modi dedicated multiple railway projects worth over Rs.1,400 crore to the nation. It includes doubling of the 65 kilometre (km) Mehsana Palanpur Rail Line worth Rs.530 crores.
Power: Inaugurated power distribution projects worth Rs.1,000 crores in Ahmedabad, Mehsana and Gandhinagar under Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Limited (UGVCL), with an aim to reduce transmission losses, modernize the network, and strengthen infrastructure under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
e VITARA: He inaugurated and flagged off the “e VITARA”, the first Made-in-India global Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) of Maruti Suzuki (Suzuki), at the Suzuki Motor plant in Hansalpur, Ahmedabad (Gujarat).
Hybrid Battery Manufacturing Boost: He also inaugurated the localized production of hybrid battery electrodes at the TDS Lithium-Ion Battery Plant, a Joint Venture (JV) of Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki (TDS), in Hansalpur, Gujarat, aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing and advancing clean energy innovation.

Overview of Fiji PM Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka’s Visit to India from August 24 to August 26, 2025The Prime Minister (PM) of the Republic of Fiji, Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka, undertook a 3-day official visit to India from August 24 to August 26, 2025, at the invitation of PM of India Narendra Modi.

  • He was accompanied by his spouse Sulueti Rabuka and a delegation which included Minister of Health and Medical Services Ratu Antonio Lalabalavu; and other senior officials of Fijian government.
  • This marked Fijian PM Rabuka 1st ever official visit to India as the PM of the South Pacific nation.

Key Highlights:
Aim: The visit of Fiji’s PM to India was aimed to strengthen India-Fiji bilateral relations in a range of areas such as maritime security, trade, health, digital technology and capacity building.
Bilateral Meeting: PM Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with his Fijian counterpart Sitiveni Rabuka at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, Delhi.

  • During the meeting, leaders of both countries reiterated their commitment towards ‘Zero Tolerance’ to terrorism.

MoUs: 9 Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) and bilateral documents across various sectors such as: agriculture, education, healthcare, mobility, defence, among others; were exchanged in the presence of PM Modi and Fiji’s PM Rabuka.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh Launches India’s First National Biofoundry Network, BioE3 ChallengeOn August 27, 2025, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T) launched the India’s first ‘National Biofoundry Network’ and ‘Biotechnology for Economy, Environment and Employment (BioE3) Challenge for Youth’, marking the one year of BioE3 Policy, at an event held at the National Media Centre in New Delhi, Delhi.

  • The initiatives reflect the commitment of Government of India (GoI) to strengthen biotechnology as a pillar of India’s economic growth.

About National Biofoundry Network:
Institutions: The National Biofoundry Network is a strategic initiative under the BioE3 Policy, comprising six institutions such as

  • International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Biotechnology Research Innovation Council -National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (BRIC-NABI),Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI), Institute of Pesticide Formulation Technology (IPFT), National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), and Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) of the Tata Memorial Centre.

About BioE3 Challenge:
Theme: It is a nationwide drive with the theme “Design Microbes, Molecules & More”
Participation: The challenge invites participation from school students of class 6-12, university students, researchers, faculty, startups, and Indian citizens to design safe-by-default biological solutions addressing the challenged in health, agriculture, environment, and industry.
Prize: The challenge will begin on the first of every month from October 2025. Each of the top 10 winners will receive a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh with recognition and mentorship support.

  • 100 best ideas will be selected and will receive funding of up to Rs.25 lakhs in two tranches through Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) to support the development of proof-of-concept into solutions.

Govt Approves Restructuring & Extension of PM SVANidhi scheme till 31 March, 2030In August 2025, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi approved the restructuring and extension of the Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme, extending its lending period from December 31, 2024, to March 31, 2030.

  •  It is a central-sector micro-credit scheme launched on 1st June 2020 by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) to provide handholding support to street vendors.

Highlights of the Approval:
Outlay: The decision involves a budgetary provision of Rs. 7,332 crore and will extend benefits to about 1.15 crore street vendors, including 50 lakh first-time recipients.
Implementation: The scheme is a joint responsibility of  MoHUA and the Department of Financial Services (DFS), under the Ministry of Finance(MoF).
Enhanced Loan Slabs: The loan slabs have been revised in the restructured scheme.

  • The 1st tranche has been increased to Rs. 15,000 from the earlier Rs. 10,000.
  • The 2nd tranche enhanced to Rs. 25,000 from Rs. 20,000 and the 3rd tranche remains unchanged at Rs. 50,000.

Credit Access via RuPay Card:The introduction of Unified Payments Interface(UPI)-linked RUPAY Credit card would provide immediate access of credit to the street vendors in order to meet any emergent business and personal requirements.
Cashback Incentives: In order to encourage digital adoption, street vendors will now be able to earn cash back incentives of up to Rs. 1,600 on retail and wholesale transactions.

Cabinet Approvals on August 27 2025On August 27 2025, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi has approved the following proposals:
Approval-1: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by PM Narendra Modi has approved the 4 projects worth Rs 12,328 crore proposed by the Ministry of Railways (MoR).

  • These projects include the expansion of 3 key railway routes across Karnataka, Telangana, Bihar and Assam; and a new rail line in Kutch, Gujarat.
  • Railway Route 1: Secunderabad (Sanathnagar)-Wadi 3rd and 4th line will span across Karnataka and Telangana.
  • Railway Route 2: Bhagalpur-Jamalpur 3rd line will be established in Bihar.
  • Railway Route 3: This includes the doubling of Furkating-New Tinsukia rail route in Assam.
  • New Rail Line for Kutch:This newly approved rail line in Kutch(Gujarat) will connect Deshalpar-Hajipir-Luna and Vayor-Lakhpat route.

Approval-2: The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) for submission of India’s bid to host the Commonwealth Games (CWG 2030).

  • It has selected Ahmedabad(Gujarat), the capital state of Gujarat as the proposed host city for 2030 CWG.

NHAI Launches ‘Project Aarohan’ to Support Children of Toll Plaza Employees
On August 26, 2025, the National Health Authority of India (NHAI), in partnership with Vertis Infrastructure Trust, launched “Project Aarohan”, a scholarship programme, with an aim to support the higher education of children of toll plaza employees with scholarships, mentorship, and skill-building initiatives.

  • The program was launched by Santosh Kumar Yadav, Chairman of NHAI  in the presence of Dr. Zafar Khan, Executive Director(ED) and Joint Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Vertis Infrastructure Trust at NHAI Headquarters in New Delhi, Delhi.

DESW Signs MoU with QCI to Enhance Military Veteran Welfare Services
On August 26, 2025, the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW) under the Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Quality Council of India (QCI) in New Delhi, Delhi, to improve the delivery of pension, healthcare, resettlement, and welfare services for over 63 lakh military veterans and their dependents.

In August 2025, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India(GoI), finalized the formation of a 21-member National Designated Authority (NDA) chaired by the Secretary of MoEFCC to implement and regulate India’s carbon emissions trading system under the Paris Agreement’s Article 6 framework.

EY August 2025 Report: India Projected to Become World’s 2nd-Largest Economy In PPP Terms By 2038In August 2025, Ernst & Young (EY) released the ‘August 2025 issue of EY Economy Watch’, projecting that India could become the world’s second-largest economy in terms of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) by 2038, with an estimated Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of USD 34.2 trillion(tn).

  • This projection is based on International Monetary Fund (IMF) growth forecasts for 2028–2030. By 2030, India’s GDP is expected to reach USD 20.7 tn in PPP terms, while China is projected to remain the largest economy with a PPP GDP of USD 42.2 tn.

Key Drivers of India’s Projected Economic Growth:
Growth Trajectory: India’s growth is supported by its following strong fundamentals

  • Youthful demographics: Median age of 28.8 years in 2025,
  • Domestic Demand: The second-highest savings rate, and
  • Sustainable fiscal outlook: A government debt-to-GDP ratio projected

Global Outlook: The United States of America (USA) remains strong but faces high debt levels exceeding 120% of GDP and slower growth rates.

  • Germany and Japan, though advanced, are constrained by high median ages and heavy reliance on global trade.
  • If India and the USA maintain their projected growth rates beyond 2030, India is expected to surpass the USA in terms of purchasing power parity (PPP) by 2038.

Growth Projection: The report added that the average predicted growth rates of India and the USA over the period 2028 to 2030 are 6.5% and 2.1% (as per IMF) respectively.

In August 2025, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC),headed by Prime Minister(PM) Narendra Modi, approved the appointment of Akash Tripathi as the new Managing Director (MD) of Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) Limited, a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE).

CCI Approvals on 27 August 2025On 27th August 2025, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MoCA) approved the following proposals:
Acquisition of PSA Bharat Investments by PSA India:
Approval:
The CCI approved PSA India Private Limited’s (acquirer) acquisition of an additional 40% shareholding in PSA Bharat Investments Private Limited (target) from AIN Investment Limited (seller).
Post-Acquisition Ownership: PSA India now holds 100% equity in PSA Bharat Investments.
Acquisition of Jaiprakash Associates Limited by Adani Group Entities:
Approval: The CCI approved the acquisition of up to 100% shareholding of Jaiprakash Associates Limited (JAL) (Target) by Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL) and Adani Infrastructure and Developers Private Limited (AIDPL), or other Adani Group entities (acquirers).
Acquisition of V.I.P. Industries Limited by Multiples Equity-led consortium:
Approval: The CCI approved the proposal of a consortium led by Multiples Equity, including Multiples Private Equity Fund IV (MPEF), Multiples Private Equity Gift Fund IV (MPGF), Samvibhag Securities Private Limited, Mithun Padam Sacheti, and Siddhartha Sacheti (acquirers) to acquire up to 32% stake in V.I.P. Industries Limited (Target).
Management Transition: Upon completion of the acquisition, the consortium will take over management control of VIP Industries, while Dilip Piramal will continue to serve as Chairman Emeritus, with the Piramal family retaining their role as investors.

Himgiri’ at Visakhapatnam, APIn August 2025, Indian Navy (IN) commissioned two state-of-the-art stealth frigates, ‘Indian Naval Ship (INS) Udaygiri (Yard 12652)’ and ‘INS Himgiri (Yard 3022)’, at Eastern Naval Command (ENC) in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP).

  • The commissioning of these stealth frigates was presided by the Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Ministry of Defence (MoD). It also marked the 1st ever simultaneous commissioning of two warships constructed at different shipyards.

Key Features:
Variant: Both Udaygiri and Himgiri are variant vessels of the Project 17 (Shivalik) class frigates.
Legacy of the Name: Both newly commissioned vessels are named after previous versions of INS Udaygiri (F35) and INS Himgiri (F34) that served the nation from 1976 to 2007 and from 1974 to 2005, respectively.
Constructed by: INS Udaygiri, the 2nd ship from Project 17A stealth frigates, was constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL).

  • While, INS Himgiri, the 3rd ship of Project 17A ship and also the 1st ship of this series which was constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE).

Designed by: Both frigates were designed in-house by the IN’s Warship Design Bureau(WDB). These are the 100th and 101st warships designed in-house by the WDB, which marks the significant milestone in 50 years of indigenous warship design.
Induction into Eastern Fleet: The two frigates, following ‘INS Nilgiri’, the lead ship of the successor class to Project 17 (Shivalik-class), were inducted into the Eastern Fleet, strengthening India’s capability to safeguard its maritime interests across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

Israel Launches JUPITER Space Camera on NAOS SatelliteOn August 26, 2025, Israeli defence company Elbit Systems Limited successfully launched its advanced JUPITER space camera aboard the National Advanced Optical System (NAOS) satellite. The launch took place from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, USA, using a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

Goa Announced as Official Host for FIDE World Cup 2025

In August 2025, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) officially announced  Goa as the host city for the FIDE World Cup 2025, which is scheduled to be held from October 30 to November 27, 2025.
