These high-speed trains will support the testing and inspection of India’s first bullet train project – the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSRC).
- The train sets, to be delivered in early 2026, will be fitted with specialized inspection equipment. They will assist in collecting critical operational data, especially related to India’s environmental conditions such as high temperatures and dust.
Note: “Shinkansen” refers to Japan’s high-speed rail technology.
Background:

- The trial data from E5 and E3 trains will support future indigenous production of the advanced E10 (Alfa-X) series trains in India
- The E10 Shinkansen, capable of speeds up to 400 km/h, represents next-generation Japanese high-speed rail technology
Financial Support:
- Around 80% of the total project cost (estimated at Rs 1.8 trillion) will be funded by low-interest yen loans from the Japanese government.
