Union MoS Kamlesh Paswan Inaugurated Garuda’s Agri-Drone Indigenization Facility in Chennai, TNIn June 2025, Union Minister of State (MoS) Kamlesh Paswan, Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), has inaugurated Chennai (Tamil Nadu, TN) based Garuda Aerospace Private Limited’s new Agri-Drone Indigenization Facility at Thalambur in Chennai,TN.
- Union MoS Kamlesh Paswan also inaugurated 300 Centres of Excellence (CoEs) and flagged off Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) approved Train the Trainer (TTT)Programme of Garuda Aerospace.
- During the launch event, live Agri-Drone was demonstrated from the Drone Didis which reflects Garuda’s commitment to ensure self-reliance and a more domestically manufactured drone industry.
Key Points:
i.The new state-of-the-art Agri-Drone Indigenization facility, spans across 3,500 square feet (sq. ft.), is now India’s 1st of its kind hub for the design, manufacturing, and rigorous testing of advanced Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).
ii.It is equipped to manufacture more than 7 sub-systems and 33 parts locally, promoting the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
- This new facility marks a significant expansion of Garuda Aerospace’s existing manufacturing unit and is a major leap in advancing drone manufacturing and skill development in India.
iii.The newly inaugurated CoEs will function as after-sales service centres, generate job opportunities, develop future drone pilots, while fostering partnerships with academic and industry networks, to build research and innovation.
iv.TTT program is a flagship skill building and development initiative of Garuda Aerospace. It is designed to empower educators and professionals to become certified drone instructors.
- It offers in-depth, practical training covering UAS operations, maintenance, and adherence to safety protocols.
Note: Garuda Aerospace announced its goal to manufacture 1 lakh drones by the year 2026, reinforcing its commitment to advancing India’s self-reliance in drone technology.

DGT and Shell India Launch Green Skills and EV Training Program
On June 12, 2025, the Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India (GoI), in partnership with Bengaluru (Karnataka)-based Shell India, launched the Green Skills and Electric Vehicle (EV) training program.
- This initiative, implemented jointly with Gurgaon (Haryana) based Edunet Foundation (Shell’s training partner), will operate across selected Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu (TN), and Karnataka.
i.The program aims to equip students and faculty with forward-looking expertise in green energy and electric mobility, aligned with India’s net-zero ambitions and sustainable development goals.
ii.The program follows a structured multi-tier training model:
- A 240-hour advanced EV technician course at 4 NSTIs to equip trainees with in-depth technical skills in EV systems.
- A 90-hour job-oriented EV skills course at 12 ITIs equipped with Shell-supported EV labs.
- 50-hour green skills program at additional ITIs without lab infrastructure.
iii.Over 250 instructors will receive Training of Trainers (ToT) to sustain educational quality. Successful participants will get co-branded certifications from Shell and DGT, along with placement support to boost job opportunities.
MP and France Sign MoU to Enhance Cultural and Tourism Cooperation
In June 2025, the Government of Madhya Pradesh (MP), the Embassy of France in India, and Bhopal(MP) based Alliance Française de Bhopal signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen long-term cooperation in the field of culture and tourism at Samatva (Chief Minister’s residence) in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh(MP).
- The MoU was signed by Dr. Thierry Mathou, Ambassador of France to India; Shiv Shankar Shukla, Principal Secretary, Tourism and Culture, MP; and Akhilesh Verma, President of Alliance Française de Bhopal.
i.The agreement is valid for three years, with the option to extend for another three years by mutual consent.
ii.The MoU outlines several strategic initiatives to enrich MP’s cultural ecosystem. It envisions regular joint cultural programs, including art festivals, music and dance performances, exhibitions, film screenings, and culinary showcases.
iii.As part of the agreement, both nations have pledged to promote mutual exchange programs involving artists, artisans, students, and cultural institutions, fostering deeper people-to-people and creative ties.
iv.To support continuous engagement, an exclusive Indo–French Cultural Calendar will be developed, fostering a vibrant, year-round platform for diverse artistic expression.

IA Participates in 22nd Exercise ‘Khaan Quest’ in Ulaanbaatar, MongoliaThe Indian Army(IA) participated in the 22nd edition of Exercise Khaan Quest, held from June 14 to 28, 2025, at the Five Hills Training Area in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
- The exercise brought together military contingents from 24 countries to enhance interoperability and refine peacekeeping skills under the United Nations (UN) mandate.
Note: The 21st edition of the exercise was conducted in Mongolia from July 27 to August 9, 2024.
IA Contingent:
The IA contingent, comprising 40 personnel, is primarily represented by troops from a battalion of the Kumaon Regiment, along with members from both arms and services.
- The contingent was led by Lieutenant General(Lt Gen) Pushpendra Singh, Director General of Operational Logistics & Strategic Management (DG OL & SM).
- The team includes one woman officer and two women soldiers, reflecting the commitment of Indian Army towards gender inclusivity.
Background:
i.The Exercise Khaan Quest began as a bilateral exercise between the United States of America (USA) and the Mongolian Armed Forces in 2003.
ii.In 2006, the Exercise Khaan Quest evolved into a multinational military exercise.
iii.The Khaan Quest multinational military exercise is co-sponsored by the United States of America(USA’s) Indo-Pacific Command and the Mongolian Armed Forces.
- This exercise is hosted every year by the Mongolian Defence Force.
About Exercise Khaan Quest 2025:
i.The exercise aims to promote military-to-military cooperation, mutual learning, and multinational coordination in peacekeeping operations
ii.The training will emphasise high levels of physical fitness, joint planning, and tactical drills. The participants will engage in practical exercises, including the establishment of static and mobile checkpoints, cordon and search operations, patrolling, evacuation of civilians from hostile areas, counter-improvised explosive device drills, combat first aid, and casualty evacuation.
iii.The exercise is expected to facilitate the exchange of best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures for joint operations among participating nations.
- It will also promote interoperability, camaraderie, and a spirit of cooperation among the soldiers involved.

World Bank Report: Carbon Pricing Covers Around 28% of Global GHG Emissions, Accounting for 2/3rd of Global GDPIn June 2025, Washington, DC (the United States of America, USA) based World Bank (WB) released its annual report titled ‘State & Trends of Carbon Pricing 2025’. As per the WB’s report, countries are increasingly adopting carbon pricing, which now covers nearly 28% of global Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, accounting for almost 2/3rd (66.66%) of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
- The report further revealed that the number of operational carbon pricing instruments has increased significantly, from 5 (in 2005) to 80 (in 2025), with India, Brazil, and Türkiye actively developing them.
i.The report highlighted that there have been major changes in the last 10 years i.e., average prices have approximately doubled, coverage emissions have increased from 12% to 28%, and revenue has tripled.
ii.The report has identified a total of 43 carbon taxes and 37 ETSs that are currently in operation.
iii.Globally, Carbon pricing, including carbon taxes and ETSs, generated over USD 100 billion in 2024.

India’s Union Cabinet Has Only 9.7% Women Ministers: UN WomenIn June 2025, New York (United States of America) based United Nation (UN) Women, also known as the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, released a new factsheet titled “Women in Politics: 2025”, highlighting that women are vanishing from political leadership globally.
- India’s Union Cabinet includes only 9.7% women ministers, representing the second-lowest proportion since 2011.
i.The “Women in Politics: 2025” map, developed by Geneva(Switzerland) based Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and UN Women, provides updated data on women’s representation in executive positions and national parliaments as of January 1, 2025.
ii.As per the data compiled by UN, women represent only 22.9% of Cabinet members heading Ministries, down from 23.3% in 2024.
- There are only nine countries in which women hold 50 % or more of the positions of Cabinet Ministers.
- Central and Southern Asia recorded the lowest proportion of women in cabinet positions, standing at just 9.5%.
AviList: World’s First Unified Global Checklist of Bird Species Launched
In June 2025, AviList(Avian Taxonomy List), the first-ever global checklist of bird species and taxonomy was published, providing a standard reference for Ornithologists and conservationists around the world. This initiative is the result of four years of collaborative efforts by the Working Group on Avian Checklists, comprising leading global experts in bird taxonomy and systematics.
- AviList is a consolidated avian taxonomy that merges the three major global bird checklists: Clements (eBird), International Ornithological Committee (IOC), and BirdLife International’s Handbook of the Birds of the World (HBW), into a single, authoritative global reference recognized across the ornithological community. It will be updated annually.
i.The Working Group on Avian Checklists included representatives from Cambridge, United Kingdom (UK) based BirdLife International, New York, United States of America (USA) based the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Illinois (USA) based the American Ornithologists Society, Los Angeles (USA) based the International Ornithologists Union and Avibase.
ii.The list contains 11,131 species, 19,879 subspecies, 2,376 genera, 252 families and 46 orders.
iii.The checklist will streamline global conservation efforts by eliminating inconsistencies and making it easier for scientists, birders and policymakers to share data and prioritize action.
- The unified approach will enhance the accuracy of tools such as the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List and eBird.
BANKING & FINANCE
RBI Allowed STRIPS in State-Government SecuritiesIn June 2025, Mumbai (Maharashtra) based Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to allow Separate Trading of Registered Interest and Principal of Securities (STRIPS) in State Government Securities (SGS).
- This will be in addition to the existing stripping/reconstitution allowed since April 01, 2010 in eligible central government dated securities.
- RBI has also clarified that the SGS’ will also be eligible for reconstitution, which is opposite of stripping, where, the COUPON STRIPS and Principal STRIPS are reassembled into original SGS.
About STRIPS:
i.STRIPS are securities that represent either the principal or each interest payment of a bond, allowing them to be traded separately in the market.
- Each component is a zero-coupon bond, meaning it is sold at a discount and pays no interest until maturity.
iii.It enables investors to hold and trade the individual interest and principal components of eligible Government Securities (G-Secs) as separate securities of different time period.
Eligibility:
i.As per RBI directions, all fixed coupon bonds issued by the state governments/ Union Territories (UTs) with residual maturity of maximum 14 years and minimum outstanding of Rs 1,000 crore are eligible for STRIPS.
ii.However, these securities are required to be eligible investment for meeting bank’s Statutory Liquidity Ratio (SLR) requirements and are transferrable.
iii.Market participants having a Securities General Ledger (SGL) account with RBI can place requests directly in RBI’s Core Banking Solution (e-Kuber system) for stripping or reconstitution.
iv.While, Gilt Account holders can place the request for stripping or reconstitution with their respective custodians maintaining the Constituent Subsidiary General Ledger (CSGL) account with the RBI and the custodians in turn, will place the request on behalf of their constituents in e-Kuber.
Key Terms:
- SLR is a regulatory requirement mandated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) under the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. It is used to ensure the solvency of banks and control inflation and liquidity in the economy.
- e-Kuber is RBI’s electronic core banking system that provides a single account for each participant to settle transactions in real-time, supporting various services such as government securities, payments, and auctions.

NSO Report: India’s Inflation Dropped to 6-Year Low of 2.82% in May 2025In June 2025, National Statistics Office (NSO), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), released the ‘Consumer Price Index (CPI) for rural, urban and combined for the month of May 2025’. As per the NSO’s data, India’s retail inflation measured by CPI, dropped to a 75-month low (6 years) by 34 basis points (bps), to 2.82% in May 2025, down from 3.16% in April 2025.
- This is the lowest Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y) inflation registered since February 2019 (at 2.57%). This marks the fourth straight month that inflation has stayed below the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) ‘s 4% target .
- This decline in retail inflation is largely driven by a sharp decrease in food inflation, favourable base effects and lower price increases in essential items.
Key Findings:
i.Food Inflation: The data showed that Y-o-Y inflation rate based on All India Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) for the month of May, 2025 over May, 2024 is 0.99% (Provisional).
ii.As per NSO’s official data, the core inflation, excluding volatile food and fuel components, has increased marginally from 4.23% in April 2025 to 4.28% in May 2025, the highest since October 2023.
iii.Kerala topped among all Indian states/ UTs with highest Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y) inflation rate of 6.46% in the month of May 2025, followed by Punjab (5.21%)

Gombojav Zandanshatar Appointed as 34th PM of MongoliaIn June 2025, the State Great Khural (Parliament) of Mongolia appointed Gombojav Zandanshatar as the 34th Prime Minister (PM) of Mongolia. He was elected with 108 votes in favour out of 117 lawmakers present in the 126-member Parliament, while 9 members voted against and 9 were absent.
- This appointment came after the resignation of former PM Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene on June 3, 2025, following his failure to secure majority support in a parliamentary vote of confidence. He received support from only 44 out of 82 lawmakers, which was below the required 64 votes to stay in office.

i.Gombojav Zandanshatar began his career as an economics researcher and instructor at Mongolia’s Institute of Trade and Industry (1992–1995).
ii.He served as an Economist and division head at Agricultural Bank (1995–1998), Manager at Mongol Bank (1998–2000), Deputy Director General(DG) at Khan Bank (2000–2003).
iii.He was elected as a Member of Parliament(MP) in 2004 and later served as Mongolia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade from 2009 to 2012.

ASI, IN SPACe & ISRO Successfully Conducts Model Rocket Launch Trials in Kushinagar, UPBengaluru (Karnataka) based Astronautical Society of India (ASI) in association with the Ahmedabad (Gujarat) based Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN- SPACe) under the Department of Space(DoS) and Bengaluru-based Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully conducted the test trials of model rocket launcher system with a payload in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh (UP) from June 14 to 15, 2025.
- This launch marks a departure from earlier ISRO experiments in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where payloads were deployed via drones. For the first time in UP, a direct rocket launch was successfully executed.
Key Points:
i.The model rocket launcher is developed by Ghaziabad (UP) based Thrust Tech India Private Limited, under the guidance of the experts from IN-SPACe and ISRO, shall be used for the student competition.
ii.The rocket, which is 15 kilogram(kg), ascended to approximately 1.1 kilometre (km).
- After the launch, a small satellite (payload) came out. As soon as it fell to 5 metres(m), its parachute activated, and the satellite landed within 400m of the ground.

South Africa Clinches ICC World Test Championship 2023–25 TitleOn June 14, 2025, South Africa defeated defending champions Australia by 5 wickets in the 2023–25 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s Cricket Ground, London, England.
- This victory ended South Africa’s 27-year ICC trophy drought, marking their first senior men’s ICC title since the 1998 ICC Knockout Trophy.
- The 3rd edition of the ICC WTC was held from June 16, 2023, to June 14, 2025.
i.Aiden Markram received the Man of the Match award for his match-winning century, becoming the first South African to score a hundred in an ICC WTC final.

Apple’s Pioneering Software Designer Bill Atkinson Passed Away In June 2025, Bill Atkinson, an American engineer, programmer, and photographer passed away at the age of 74 in California, the United States of America(USA). He was born in Ottumwa, Iowa(USA), on March 17, 1951.
- He was renowned as a visionary software designer behind the graphical user interface (GUI) of Apple Computer, Inc.based in California, USA.
Career Highlights:
i.Bill Atkinson joined Apple Inc. in 1978 as the 51st employee. He played a pivotal role in developing software.
ii.Designed foundational GUI for Apple’s Lisa computer (released January 1983) and Macintosh (released January 1984), replacing complex commands with visual interactions.
- Invented pull-down menus and refined the double-click gesture. Created the “Round-Rect” (rounded rectangle), now ubiquitous in digital design.
iii.He developed QuickDraw, a revolutionary graphics library initially built for Lisa, and later became the core visual technology of Macintosh systems. It enabled smooth rendering of images, text, and shapes on screen.
- He also created MacPaint, a digital art application included with the original Macintosh.
iv.After declining Jobs’ invitation to join NeXT in 1985, he continued at Apple and created HyperCard, the first widely used hypertext system. It allowed users to create interactive programs using a basic scripting language, predating modern apps.
v.He also developed PhotoCard, a free iOS(iPhone Operating System) application(app) available on the Apple App Store that lets users design and send personalized postcards using their own photos.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2025 – June 15The United Nations(UN’s) World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is annually observed across the globe on 15 June to raise awareness about the abuse, neglect, and mistreatment faced by older persons.
- The theme for WEAAD 2025 is “Addressing Abuse of Older Adults in Long Term Care Facilities: Through Data and Action”, which focuses on tackling abuse in nursing homes and assisted living centres by using evidence-based approaches to inform policy and practice.
Background:
i.The New York (United States of America, USA) based International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA), in collaboration with the Geneva (Switzerland) based World Health Organization (WHO), initiated the observance of WEAAD in 2006.
ii.On 19th December 2011, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted Resolution A/RES/66/127, officially recognising 15th June as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
iii.The first official UN-recognised WEAAD was observed on 15th June 2012.

On June 15, 2025, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) hosted an event to commemorate Global Wind Energy Day in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The theme for the 2025 observance was “Pawan Urja: Powering the Future of India”, emphasizing wind energy’s pivotal role in India’s renewable energy strategy.
- The event was attended by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, MNRE; Union Minister of State(MoS) Shripad Yesso Naik,MNRE and K.G. George, Energy Minister of Karnataka.
- During the event, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that India’s wind energy capacity has increased by over 10.5% year-on-year to 51.5 gigawatts (GW) in 2025, up from 46.42 GW in 2024.
Asean dengue day 2025 – June 15 ASEAN Dengue Day (ADD) is observed annually on June 15 as a regional advocacy initiative to raise awareness and strengthen efforts against dengue. The day emphasizes preventive measures, scientific advancements, and community participation to combat this deadly disease.

AP Launched ‘Talliki Vandanam’ Scheme for School ChildrenIn June 2025, the Government of Andhra Pradesh (AP), led by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu, launched a new welfare scheme named ‘Talliki Vandanam’ under the Telugu Desam Party-led National Democratic Alliance (TDP-led NDA) coalition’s “Super Six” promises, which was launched on its first anniversary to promote education and empower mothers.
- The ‘Thalliki Vandanam’ scheme (meaning “Salutations to the Mother”) offers an annual financial assistance of Rs.15,000 per school-going child, directly credited to the mother’s Aadhaar-linked bank account via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), with no limit on the number of children eligible per household.
Key Details:
i.Scheme Coverage: Students from Classes I to XII in government, private aided, and unaided schools, including junior colleges.
ii.Financial Allocation: Rs. 8745 crore in the first phase (2025-26).
iii.Deduction: Rs. 2000 per child for educational infrastructure (hygiene, sanitation, maintenance).
iv.Implementation: After verifying eligibility, the Grama Sachivalayam/Ward Sachivalayam (GSWS) System, Welfare Departments, and Finance Department will jointly coordinate the disbursement of funds.
v.Reimbursement: Under Section 12(1)(C) of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, fee reimbursements are provided to school managements, and any residual amount is transferred to the mother’s account.
Eligibility:
i.Annual family income must not exceed Rs.1.2 lakh (urban) / Rs.1.0 lakh (rural).
ii.Must possess a Rice Card and an Aadhaar-linked bank account.
iii.Landholding is less than 3 acres wet / 10 acres dry / both combined.
iv.No 4-wheeler (except auto/tractor/taxi), no municipal property greater than 1,000 square feet (sq ft).
v.Monthly electricity usage is less than 300 units.
vi.No government employees (except sanitation workers earning below the threshold).
vii.Children must have 75% attendance and not be enrolled in Industrial Training Institute (ITI)/Polytechnic/Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT), AP.
viii.Orphans and street children covered if verified.
