India Energy Storage Week 2025 Held from July 08 to July 10, 2025 in New DelhiThe 11th edition of India Energy Storage Week (IESW 2025), a premier international conference and exhibition was held from July 08 to July 10, 2025 at India International Convention & Expo Centre (IICC) Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, Delhi. Also on the sidelines of IESW 2025, a dedicated tech tour was held on July 11, 2025.
- The 3-day international conference was organised by India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA), a leading industry alliance focused on the development of advanced energy storage, green hydrogen, and e-mobility technologies in India.
i.The conference saw the participation from over 30 countries including more than 200 partners and exhibitors, over 150 speakers, more than1,000 delegates, and over 10,000 visitors.
ii.Union Minister of State (MoS) Harsh Malhotra, Ministry of Road, Transport, & Highways (MoRTH) and Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MoCA) inaugurated a key session titled ‘India’s Roadmap for Vehicle Electrification’ at IESW 2025.
iii.Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MoC&I) unveiled Rs 1 lakh crore Research, Development and Innovation Fund (RDI) at IESW, aimed to boost next-generation battery technologies in India.
iv.Telangana has bagged the IESA Industry Excellence Award 2025 under the category of State Leadership in ‘Battery Manufacturing’.
v.IESA released its latest ‘IESA India Hydrogen Report’ during the inaugural ceremony of IESW 2025. The report has projected that India’s hydrogen demand is expected to increase at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 3%, reaching 8.8 million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA).

Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia Inaugurated VTU-VRIF-TCOE Hub & Spoke CoE in BengaluruIn July 2025, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Madhavrao (M.) Scindia, Ministry of Communications and Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) inaugurated the ‘VTU-VRIF-TCOE Hub’ and ‘Spoke Centre of Excellence (CoE)’ at regional office of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
- This CoE is collaborative initiative between VTU, the Visvesvaraya Research and Innovation Foundation (VRIF), and Telecom Centres of Excellence (TCOE) India.
Key Points:
i.During the event, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia reviewed the progress of Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) along with Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DoT) under MoC, during an event held in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
- The alliance presented comprehensive updates on India’s progress toward becoming a global leader in 6G by 2030.

MoTA Launches First RPL under the Aadi KARMAYOGI Abhiyan in BengaluruIn July 2025, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) launched the first Regional Process Lab (RPL) of the Aadi KARMAYOGI Abhiyan, National Mission for Responsive Governance in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
- This initiative seeks to create a vibrant network of 20 lakh tribal grassroots functionaries and village-level change-makers, who will lead inclusive development efforts and enhance last-mile service delivery in tribal regions.
About Bengaluru’s Regional Process Lab (RPL):
i.The RPL, hosted at Hotel Royal Orchid Central in Bengaluru serves as a capacity-building hub, training State Master Trainers (SMTs) from Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu(TN), Andhra Pradesh(AP), and Telangana.
ii.The trained SMTs will lead State Process Labs(SPLs), which will, in turn, train District Master Trainers (DMTs).
iii.The programme also integrates Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to strengthen participatory learning and local contextualization.
About Aadi KARMAYOGI Abhiyan:
i.The Aadi Karmayogi programme launched in June 2025, aims to improve the tribal welfare scheme implementation by training and inspiring a cadre of motivated and citizen-centric field officials.
- This initiative promotes responsive governance through bottom-up visioning, real-time grievance redressal, and collaborative implementation.
ii.It is founded on the principle of convergence across key ministries and departments, including Tribal Affairs, Rural Development, Women & Child Development (W&CD), Jal Shakti, School Education, and Forests.
- The mission, built on the pillars of convergence, community and capability, is aligned with flagship initiatives such as Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) and the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA).
iii.It envisions a governance framework where aspirations of tribal youth meet responsive institutions and where policy reaches people with dignity, timeliness, and purpose.
Points to Note:
- PM-JANMAN was launched in November 2023 to enhance the socio-economic conditions of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) by providing comprehensive development interventions.
- The DAJGUA was launched in October 2024 to address the critical gaps in social infrastructure, health, education and livelihood development across approximately 63,000 tribal villages. The scheme has a total outlay of Rs.79,156 crores.

MeitY & BITS Pilani Signed MoU to Launch Professional Development Programs in Cybersecurity
In July 2025, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rajasthan based Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani (BITS Pilani) to launch an 8-week Professional Development Program in Cybersecurity for professionals from government, PSUs, and the private sector.
- The program, aimed at building a skilled cybersecurity workforce across Government, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), and Industry, will commence on 19th July 2025.
i.The course will be conducted by BITS Pilani through its Centre for Research Excellence in National Security (CRENS) at the Hyderabad (Telangana) campus, in collaboration with its technology partner Rapifuzz Private Limited.
ii.The 8-week hybrid Cybersecurity Program, guided by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) under the MeitY, features online modules, live interactive sessions, and a capstone project.
iii.Participants will learn, Cyber threats, Network Security (Firewalls, Intrusion Detection Systems/Intrusion Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS), Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)), Cryptography, Legal Frameworks, Incident Management, and Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs).
iv.Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded a co-branded Professional Development Certificate in Cybersecurity by CERT-In and BITS Pilani.
Indian Railways Signed MoU with DFCCIL to Deploy MVIS Train Safety System
In July 2025, Indian Railways (IR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL), a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Railways (MoR), for the installation of Machine Vision-Based Inspection System (MVIS) for monitoring the health of rolling stock.
- As per the MoU, DFCCIL will be responsible for the procurement, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of four MVIS units. This new system is the first of its kind for IR.
i.MVIS is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)-enabled technology deployed along railway tracks.
- It captures high-resolution images of the under-gear of moving trains and automatically detects hanging, loose, or missing components.
ii.The system detects anomalies and generates real-time alerts, enabling timely preventive actions by railway personnel, thereby reducing accident risks and enhancing service reliability.
iii.The deployment is expected to reduce manual inspection efforts, enhance the safety of train operations, and prevent potential disruptions in services.
Kerala’s Arthunkal Police Station Receives ISO Certification from BIS
On July 10, 2025, the Arthunkal Police Station in Alappuzha, Kerala, was awarded the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) certification by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
- With this, it became the first police station in India to receive the ISO 9001:2015 certification from BIS, recognizing its commitment to quality service and efficient policing standards.
i.The certification process included a two-stage audit which assessed risk management, quality processes, modern complaint-handling protocols, basic infrastructure, and professional conduct.
ii.The certificate acknowledges the station’s performance in the areas of crime prevention, investigation, maintenance of law and order, traffic management, emergency response, judicial coordination, and public grievance redressal.
iii.These functions have been carried out in accordance with the Indian legal framework, government policies, and directives, with reliance on efficiency, transparency, and public satisfaction within the jurisdiction of the Arthunkal police station.
iv.This achievement is part of the Modernised Cherthala Police Programme, driven by ASP Harish Jain, focusing on structural reforms to modernize policing standards.
Mumbai’s Carnac Bridge Renamed after the Success of ‘Operation Sindoor’
In July 2025, Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister (CM) of Maharashtra inaugurated the new Carnac Bridge in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It was renamed as ‘Sindoor Bridge’ in the honour of Operation Sindoor, the military operation launched by the Government of India (GoI) against terror sites in Pakistan in May 2025.
i.The renaming of the bridge also aims to erase the colonial legacy of British governor James Rivett-Carnac, who served as the Governor of Bombay from 1839 to 1841.
ii.The erstwhile Carnac Bridge, originally built in 1868, was amongst the oldest bridges in Mumbai.
- The old structure of the bridge was demolished in 2022, following a structural audit declared it unsafe for daily traffic.
iii.The total length of the new bridge is 328 meters (m), with 4 vehicular lanes , providing a vital link between the port area and key locations such as Crawford Market, Kalbadevi, and Dhobi Talao in South Mumbai.
iv.The bridge, connects the Masjid area to P D Mello Road, is expected to reduce traffic congestion in several places in South Mumbai.

Forbes Releases America’s Richest Immigrants 2025 list: India Leads; Jay Chaudhry in Top 10On July 10, 2025, Forbes released its “America’s Richest Immigrants 2025” list, revealing that India is the top country of origin with 12 India-born billionaires, the highest number of immigrant billionaires in the United States of America (USA). Jay Chaudhry, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zscaler, is the only Indian-origin billionaire in Forbes’ Top 10 richest immigrant billionaires, ranked 8th with a net worth of USD 17.9 billion.
- The 125 foreign-born USA billionaires from 43 countries hold about USD 1.3 trillion (approximately 18% of USA’s USD 7.2 trillion of billionaire wealth).
- South Africa–born Elon Musk tops the list of immigrant billionaires in USA with a net worth of USD 393.1 billion (Bn), followed by Russia’s Sergey Brin(USD 139.7 Bn) of Google and Taiwan’s Jensen Huang (USD 137.9 Bn) of Nvidia.

i..The USA remains the global billionaire capital with 902 billionaires (USD 6.8 trillion combined wealth).
ii.India overtakes Israel and Taiwan to emerge as the Number 1 source of immigrant billionaires in USA with 12 India-born billionaires up from 7 in 2022, showcasing strong Indian representation in global wealth and entrepreneurship.
iii.93% of the immigrant billionaires are self-made. The Technology Sector and Finance Sector contribute to about 53 immigrant billionaires (42.4%) and 28 immigrant billionaires (22.4%), respectively. Other notable sectors include Medical Devices, Aviation, Cybersecurity, Venture Capital.

WTTC Releases Top 10 Global Tourism Economies for 2024-25: India Ranks 8, USA Tops the listIn April 2025, the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), in collaboration with Oxford Economics, released the 2024 Economic Impact Trends (EIR) Report, highlighting the Top 10 Global Tourism Economies for 2024-25. According to the report, Indiaclimbed to the 8th position with a Travel & Tourism sector contribution of USD 231.6 billion, up from 10th place in 2023.
- United States of America (USA) has secured the first place with USD 2,360 billion, followed by China (USD 1,300 billion) in the second place and Germany (USD 487.6 billion) in the third place.
Key Points:
i.WTTC produces the report on the economic and employment impact of Travel & Tourism for 184 countries/ economies and 28 geographic and economic regions in the world.
ii.In 2024, the global Travel and Tourism sector contributed USD 10.9 trillion to the world’s GDP. This includes the direct, indirect, and induced impacts of the sector, accounting for 10% of the global economy.
iii.France stood at 6th position with USD 264.7 billion from Travel & Tourism, followed by Mexico (7th) with USD 261.6 billion, Italy (9th) with USD 231.3 billion, and Spain (10th) with USD 227.9 billion.

Asia Index Unveiled New BSE Insurance Index
In July 2025, Asia Index Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), unveiled a new index named ‘BSE Insurance Index’.
- This newly launched index is derived from the constituents of BSE 1000 index that are classified under the insurance sector.
i.The index has a base value of 1000, with its inception date set as June 18, 2018.
ii.The index, which caps stock weight at 25%, will be revised semi-annually i.e. in the months of June and December.
iii.The index can be used for running passive strategies like: Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), and Index Funds.
iv.It can further be used for setting benchmarks for Portfolio Management Services (PMS) strategies, mutual fund schemes, and fund portfolios.
KMBL and IndiGo Relaunch Co-Branded Credit Cards with IndiGo BluChip Rewards
On July 10, 2025, Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited(KMBL) and IndiGo Airlines have partnered to relaunched co-branded credit cards, powered by IndiGo BluChip, IndiGo’s newly introduced loyalty program.
- The move aims to attract both frequent flyers and customers looking to earn rewards on everyday spending.
i.The co-branded offering includes two variants, including the ‘IndiGo Kotak Credit Card’ and the ‘IndiGo Kotak Premium Credit Card’. The cards allow users to earn BluChips, which can be redeemed for IndiGo flight bookings across domestic and international routes.
ii.The IndiGo Kotak Credit Card offers customers the chance to earn over 30,000 BluChips annually on spending of Rs.6 lakhs, including milestone and bonus rewards.
iii.The Kotak Premium Credit Card, designed for frequent flyers, offers over 70,000 BluChips on annual spends over Rs.12 lakhs, turning everyday spending into return tickets to popular destinations.
iv.Premium cardholders can earn up to 21 BluChips per Rs.100 spent on IndiGo bookings, while the standard card offers up to 19 BluChips per Rs.100.
v.Cardholders also earn BluChips on dining, entertainment, and miletone spending.

On July 9, 2025, Computer Age Management Services (CAMS) has launched ‘CAMSPay Payment Gateway’, a next-generation platform, designed to meet the evolving needs of businesses in India. AIIB Commits USD100 Million to IIFL Home Finance for Affordable Housing in India
In July 2025, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) signed a USD 100 million (approximately Rs. 830 crore) funding agreement with IIFL Home Finance Limited (IIFLHF) to enhance affordable housing finance access for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Low-Income Groups (LIG) in India.
- The investment will also support eco-friendly construction practices in line with India’s climate and sustainability goals. This marks AIIB’s first partnership with IIFLHF.
i.The funding will be utilized to support both demand-side and supply-side housing needs:
- Demand-side: Home loans for EWS/LIG families to purchase/build houses.
- Supply-side: Financing developers constructing affordable housing projects
ii.Notably, 20% of funds will promote green-certified affordable housing, aligning with India’s Paris Agreement commitments and supporting the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) 2.0, which aims to provide “Housing for All” in urban areas.

Nvidia Becomes World’s First Company to Hit USD 4 Trillion Market Value
In July 2025, United States of America (USA)-based Nvidia Corporation, a global leader in accelerated computing and artificial intelligence (AI), became the world’s first publicly traded company to achieve a market capitalisation of USD 4 trillion. This milestone solidified Nvidia’s dominance in the ongoing AI hardware revolution.
- With this achievement, Nvidia has surpassed Microsoft Corporation, which holds the second position with a market value of USD 3.75 trillion, while Apple Inc. ranks third with a valuation of USD 3.17 trillion.
i.Nvidia’s rapid valuation growth, driven by rising global demand for AI technologies, saw it cross USD 1 trillion in June 2023, USD 2 trillion in February 2024, and USD 3 trillion in June 2024.
ii.Nvidia supplies nearly 90% of the advanced AI chips used in data centers that run large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT.
iii.Its Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) are key components used by major cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud (by Alphabet Inc.).

Background:
i.World Population Day was established in 1989 by the then Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
- The idea for World Population Day was inspired by the world population reaching five billion on July 11, 1987, prompting Dr. K.C. Zachariah, a senior demographer at the World Bank, to propose commemorating the milestone annually.
ii.In December 1990, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted Resolution A/RES/45/216, officially deciding to observe World Population Day annually.

International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica 2025 – 11 JulyThe United Nations (UN’s) International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica is observed every year across the globe on 11 July to honor the memory over 8,300 Bosnian Muslim (Bosniak) men and boys who were systematically murdered by the Bosnian Serb Army in and around Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 1995.
- 11 July 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the genocide committed in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Bosnian War (1992–1995).
Background:
i.In May 2024, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted Resolution A/RES/78/282, establishing 11 July as the annual International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica.
ii.The resolution, led by Germany and Rwanda and backed by more than 40 co-sponsoring nations.

World Horse Day 2025 – July 11The first-ever United Nations (UN’s) World Horse Day (WHD) is observed across the globe on July 11 to acknowledge, celebrate, and protect the immense global contribution of horses to human society.
- The day underscores the importance of horses as “one of the most important animals in human history,” recognizing their essential roles in transportation, agriculture, mining, recreation, and tourism, while also raising awareness about the declining global horse population and the challenges faced by equine industries.
Background:
i.On 3 June 2025, the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the draft Resolution 79/291, led by Mongolia, to formally designate July 11 of every year as “World Horse Day”.
ii.WHD aims to highlight the contributions of horses to culture, economy, rural livelihoods, sport, therapy, and the unique challenges they face, including loss of habitat, climate change, and declining population.
iii.The resolution calls on governments, schools, businesses, and individuals to celebrate the role of horses and to tackle the challenges they face in the modern world.

Maharashtra Declares Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav as State Festival
In July 2025, the Government of Maharashtra officially declared the 132-year-old Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav, (public Ganesh festival) as the “State Festival of Maharashtra”. The announcement was made in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly by Ashish Shelar, Minister of Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra.
i.Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav was started in 1893 by Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak to unite people during India’s freedom struggle. Over the years, it grew into a major cultural celebration across Maharashtra.
ii.The festival symbolises self-respect, community harmony, and pride in the Marathi language and traditions. It now spans 10 days, beginning this year on 27 August 2025.
iii.As part of the celebration, the Maharashtra government will bear expenses for police security, infrastructure, and financial aid for celebrations across cities like Mumbai, Pune, and smaller towns.
iv.Earlier restrictions on Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols, imposed by previous administrations citing Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) guidelines, were lifted after a scientific study by the Kakodkar Committee via the Rajiv Gandhi Science Commission.
