About Japanese Sake :
Japanese officials are working to revitalize Sake’s reputation, aiming to position it as the country’s leading alcoholic beverage once again.
i.The Art of Sake Brewing: Sake brewing is a meticulous craft, brewed in centuries-old mountaintop warehouses through a simple yet intricate process. The primary ingredients, Japanese rice, water, yeast, and koji (a rice mold), are combined and transformed through a detailed, two-month-long process.

  • Steaming, fermenting, stirring, and pressing all require precision and care to create the perfect drink. This labor-intensive process requires expertise, with each step contributing to the Sake’s smooth, refined taste.

ii.Cultural Significance: Sake is not just a beverage; it’s a deep-rooted part of Japanese heritage. This rice wine, featured in the 11th-century literary work The Tale of Genji, has been central to numerous cultural practices for centuries.
iii.To be classified as true Japanese Sake, the rice used must be grown in Japan. This requirement ensures the authenticity of the drink and highlights its deep connection to Japan’s agricultural traditions.
iv.The Sake exports, primarily to markets like the United States of America (USA) and China, have reached over USD 265 million annually, as reported by the Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association (JSS).
