UIDAI & NRSC Signs MoU to Develop Bhuvan-Aadhaar PortalUIDAI, ISRO ink pact for technical collaboration

An Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), New Delhi (Delhi), and the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Hyderabad, Telangana for technical collaboration.

  • As part of the new arrangement, NRSC will develop the Bhuvan-Aadhaar portal, which will provide information and locations of Aadhaar centres across India.
  • The Bhuvan-Aadhaar portal will also allow residents to look for appropriate Aadhaar centres by location, according to their needs.

The MoU was signed by Shailendra Singh IFS, Deputy Director-General of UIDAI, and Dr. Prakash Chauhan, Director of NRSC in the presence of Dr. Saurabh Garg, CEO of UIDAI, and other senior officers of UIDAI and NRSC.
Key Points:
i.The NRSC will also provide a web-based portal to collect and store data about existing and new enrolment centres to improve citizen-centric services by carrying out regular statutory inspections. 
ii.The collected data will be verified for quality by regionally designated authorities to ensure that residents have accurate information on the centres, along with an online visualization facility.
iii. Bhuvan will provide complete geographic information storage, retrieval, analysis, and reporting for Aadhaar centres, with a high-resolution backdrop of natural-colour satellite images.
iv.UIDAI and NRSC are collaborating closely to establish design, integration, and rollout modalities as a top priority.

OIL Joined with Ohm clean tech for promoting Hydrogen based mobility solutions in Northeastern India

On April 8, 2022, Oil India Limited (OIL) and Ohm Clean Tech Private Limited – a Hydrogen Fuel related start-up, inks an Incubation agreement for Design, Integration and Development of 9-M (metre) Hydrogen Fuel Cell powered e-bus and a Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) solution.

  • The Startup will be nurtured and mentored by Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-Guwahati).

i.The OIL India Ltd. through its scheme SNEH (Start-up Nurturing, Enabling & Handholding) is presently nurturing six start-ups across India in various domains such as robotics, instrumentation, biotech and fuel delivery solutions.
ii.Under the ongoing Pilot projects for Hydrogen generation and blending, OIL is now sponsoring Ohm clean Tech Pvt Ltd. in the fields of hydrogen storage, transportation and mobility solutions, which shall be successful in running Hydrogen Fuel Cell Powered e-Bus in Northeast India.
iii.This partnership would help in achieving Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives of Government of India and also open the doors for Hydrogen economy in the Northeastern part of India.

  • Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) – provide a sustainable solution to store and transport hydrogen, which is liquid at ambient temperature similar to crude oil.

Rajnath Singh inaugurates Air Force Commanders' Conference in Delhi

Union Minister of Defence, Rajnath Singh  inaugurated a three- day Air Force Commanders’ Conference (AFCC) at Vayu Bhawan in New Delhi, Delhi.

  • The theme for this Conference is ‘Optimising human resources’.
  • The conference will focus on the conduct of operations in a smart and efficient manner. Mitigation of threats posed by drones will also be brainstormed during the conference.

Key points:
i.The officials discussed issues pertaining to preparedness, upcoming challenges and the tasks ahead. 
ii.Indian Air Force (IAF) did an excellent job under its humanitarian relief programme ‘Operation Ganga’.

  • It was launched on 26 February 2022.
  •  It was an evacuation mission to bring back all the Indian nationals who are currently stranded in Ukraine There were around 20,000 Indians including students stuck in Ukraine under Russia-Ukraine armed conflict.

iii.The Defence minister also launched the “MEHAR BABA COMPETITION – II” to provide a boost to the growing indigenous drone industry. it  aimed at developing technology for a “Swarm Drone-based system to detect Foreign Objects on Aircraft Operating Surfaces”.
iv.The conference was attended by Union Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt and Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar, along with senior commanders of the Indian Air Force.

NHA launched HBP under AB-PMJAY Adding 365 New Procedures

During the 3rd edition of two day ‘Ayushman Sangam’ ,a meeting held in Tamil Nadu, the National Health Authority (NHA) has launched a new version of the Health Benefit Package (HBP), 2022, under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), by adding 365 new procedures and making the total of about 1,949 procedures.

  • In HBP 2022, differential pricing is introduced for the first time based upon the type of city and level of care.
  • Ayushman Sangam is to review the AB-PMJAY and Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission Southern Southern States and Union Territories in Mahabalipuram.
  • Third edition is covering the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.
  • NHA has announced the roll out of patient classification systems through ICD-11 (International classification of disease) and ICHI (International Classification of Health Intervention).

Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY)
AB-PMJAY is the first national public health insurance fund, that aims to provide free access to health insurance coverage for low income earners in the country.
i.The new initiative of  Diagnosis Related Grouping (DRG) was launched in Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra and Meghalaya.
ii.AB-PMJAY will be the first insurance scheme in India to provide a payment mechanism through DRG, the statement noted.
Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM)
The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) aims to develop the backbone necessary to support the integrated digital health infrastructure of the country. 

  • Eg: creating Digital ID, free of cost.
  • By booking slot for vaccination.

GoI Allocated 25% Defence Procurement For Domestic Private Industry

Govt reserves 25% of defence procurement budgetTo promote private industry, Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) and start-ups in defence production,Union Defence Ministry has allocated 25% of the Domestic Capital Procurement/Acquisition Budget, amounting to Rs 21,149.47 Cr has allocated for domestic private industry in Financial Year (FY)2022-23.

  • An amount of Rs 1,500 crore has been signed for procurement from startups, including iDEX (innovations for defence excellence) startups, within the allocated domestic capital procurements.
  • The defence ministry has signed 68% of the capital procurement budget of Rs 84,598 crore for the domestic public and private industry during the 2022-2023 fiscal.
  • The design and development of military platforms and equipment is done with the collaboration of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)and other organisations through the special purpose vehicle (SPV) model. 
  • An independent nodal umbrella body will be set up for wide ranging testing and certification.
  • India allocated Rs 5.25 lakh crore for military spending in FY22-23 budget, including a total capital budget of Rs 1.52 lakh crore for the modernisation of the armed forces.

i.The institute ranked 37th in 2022 an improvement from its 44th position in 2021 in mineral and mining engineering.

Highlights of RBI’s 1st bi-monthly monetary policy of 2022-23; India’s GDP Projected at 7.2% in FY23 

Highlights of RBI's 1st bi-monthly monetary policy of 2022-23

i.The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) met on April 6-8, 2022 , and release the RBI’s first monetary policy of FY23 which projected India’s gross domestic Product (GDP) growth at 7.2% for the FY23 from 7.8% estimated earlier, with FY23’s Q1 at 16.2%; Q2 at 6.2%; Q3 at 4.1%; and Q4 at 4%.
ii.This projection is on an assumption of crude oil (Indian basket) at $100 per barrel during FY23 and supply chain disruptions due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
iii.RBI has also hiked its Consumer Price Index (CPI) based inflation forecast for FY23 to 5.7% from its earlier projection of 4.5%. It is projected to remain at 6.3% in Q1; 5.8% in Q2; 5.4% in Q3 and 5.1% in Q4.
iv.To further facilitate greater penetration of bill payments through the BBPS and to encourage participation of a greater number of non-bank Bharat Bill Payment Operating Units in the BBPS, it is proposed to reduce the net worth requirement of such entities from Rs 100 crore to Rs 25 crore.

On 8 April 2022, Chairman of Karnataka Vikas Grameena  Bank (KVGB), P. Gopi Krishna launched  ‘Vikas Siri Sampat-1111’ , a new deposit scheme of the bank.
;What is ‘Vikas Siri Sampat-1111’?
i.The scheme is of limited tenure  of only 1,111 days, which provides an interest rate of 5.70% for the general public and 6.20 % for senior citizens.

  • It also offers the highest rate of annualized return of 6.03% for the general public and 6.60% for senior citizens. 
  • Customers can deposit a minimum of Rs.10,000 and a maximum of Rs.2 crore under this scheme.

ii.Prospective customers of the scheme will earn higher interest and it is the highest rate offered among the nationalized banks in India.

ADB inks loan pact with French firm LDC for USD 100 million to help small farmers ADB, French firm LDC ink pact for USD 100 mn loanThe Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed USD 100 million(Rs.760 crores) loan pact with a French firm Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) to help small farmers in countries such as India, Indonesia, Pakistan,Thailand and Vietnam to recover from the economic challenges posed by the pandemic (COVID-19) and improve their resilience to climate change impacts.
i.The pact will be covering around 50,000 smallholder farmers of rice, cotton and coffee cultivators from across the countries by ensuring climate resilient farming practices, reliable income support and help offset the impact of supply chain disruptions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
ii.The pact will be accompanied by a Technical Assistance (TA) grant comprising USD 205,000 from ADB’s Technical Assistance Special Fund for COVID Recovery and USD 385,000 from the Strategic Climate Fund, administered by ADB.
iii.The TA grant will deliver training activities and capacity building for about 4000 farmers, which will reinforce the benefits of sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices for cotton farmers (with drip irrigation) in India and coffee farmers (with Biochar Kilns) in Indonesia.

Bandhan-Led Group to Purchase IDFC MF for Rs. 4,500 Crores; HDFC Sells A 3% Stake in Bandhan Bank Bandhan-led group to buy IDFC MF, deal valued at ₹4,500 crore

A Bandhan Financial Holdings Limited (BFHL)-led consortium has won the bid to buy and acquire IDFC Asset Management Company (AMC) and IDFC AMC Trustee Company for Rs 4,500 crore.

  • The consortium comprises BFHL, Lathe Investment (an affiliate of Singapore’s sovereign fund GIC), Tangerine Investments, and Infinity Partners (affiliates of ChrysCapital).
  • BFHL will own 60% of the AMC, while GIC and ChrysCapital will each own 20%.
  • Bandhan Financial Holding is the holding company of private sector Bandha Bank.

Key Points:
i.The consortium is hopeful of receiving the necessary approvals and expects the process of acquisition to be completed in the next nine to twelve months.
ii.BFHL will pay for the acquisition with a portion of the Rs. 10,600 crores it earned from the diluting of its stake in Bandhan Bank.
HDFC Sells A 3% Stake in Bandhan Bank in A Block Deal for Rs. 1,522 Crores
In a bulk deal, HDFC Ltd sold ~4.96 crore shares in Bandhan Bank (for a total of 49,632,349 equity shares), for a sum of almost Rs. 1,522 crores.

  • The shares were sold at a price of Rs. 306.61 a share, equating to about a 3.1 percent stake of HDFC in Bandhan Bank.

Space-X launches 1st All Private Mission to International Space StationSpace-X launches first all private mission to space station

On 8th April 2022, SpaceX successfully launched “Axiom-1(Ax-1)” to the International Space Station (ISS).It is a joint mission of NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and Axiom Space .

  • The  mission is the first-ever all-private spaceflight that transported astronauts to the ISS. This is also the first commercial mission to the ISS.
  • The  mission launched in partnership among Axiom, SpaceX and NASA is a major step in the expansion of commercial space ventures collectively referred to as the low-Earth orbit economy (LEO economy).

About the  Axiom-1 (Ax-1) mission:
i.It carried four astronauts to the space station after lifting off from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center,  in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

  • The   crew included  three paying customers-  Larry Connor, Eytan Stibbe and Mark Pathy along with ex-NASA astronaut and Axiom Vice President Michael Lopez-Alegria. 

iii.The team of four astronauts would reach the space station on 9 April 2022.
Later they  would enter the orbiting laboratory after docking of the SpaceX Dragon Endeavour.
iv.During the 10 day mission, Studies and research on the impact of space on the human brain, cancer research, development of hardware for space habitats, etc will be conducted by the astronauts. 
Points to be noted-
Larry Connor, who served as the mission pilot , officially became the first person to touch the ocean surface and visit outer space in the same year (2022).

  • ISS  is a modular space station in low Earth orbit. 
  • It is a multinational collaborative project involving five participating space agencies: NASA, Roscosmos, JAXA, ESA, and CSA. ISS will be retired around 2030.

Kadam – India’s first indigenously developed polycentric prosthetic knee by IIT-MIIT-M launches India's first indigenously developed prosthetic knee

India’s first indigenously developed polycentric prosthetic knee – Kadam was launched by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M), the Above Knee Prosthesis was developed in association with Society for Biomedical Technology (SBMT) and Mobility India.
About Kadam:
i.Kadam will help people with above-knee amputees to walk in comfortable gait.Kadam has multiple axes hinge joints for rotation which provide greater control over the prosthesis and gives a maximum knee flexion of 160 degrees to make it easy to sit in cramped spaces like buses and autos.
ii.The design includes high durable stainless steel and aluminium alloy along with hard chrome plated EN8 pins and high fatigue life polymer bushings, which was developed by a team at TTK Centre for Rehabilitation Research and Device Development (R2D2) at IIT-M.

  • TTK Centre for Rehabilitation Research and Device Development (R2D2) also developed and commercialized ‘Arise,’ the country’s first standing wheelchair and NeoFly-NeoBolt: active wheelchair and motorized add-on for seamless indoor-outdoor mobility.

iii.The Kadam prosthetic knee is suitable for both short and long residual limbs after transfemoral (above-knee) amputation and comes with a patented 4-bar geometry that provides stability even on uneven terrain and improved ground clearance.

i.The SBMT was established under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) by former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam to enable indigenous medical device development.

CRPF Valour Day 2022 – 9th April CRPF Valour Day - April 9 2022

Annually the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) observes the CRPF Valour Day, also known as Shaurya Diwas, on 9th April to commemorate the 1965 battle at Sardar Post in Rann of Kuchh, Gujarat against Pakistan. 
The day is annually observed as a tribute to the brave men of the CRPF. 
9th April 2022 marks the observance of the 57th CRPF Valour Day. 
Background:
i.On 9th April 1965, a contingent of the 2nd battalion of CRPF, fought and repulsed an attack by a Pakistani Brigade on Sardar Post in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, eliminating 34 Pakistani soldiers and capturing 4 alive. 
ii.As a tribute to the CRPF personnel, the 9th April is declared and celebrated as the CRPF Valour Day since 1965.
History of CRPF:
i.The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is the premier central police force of the Union of India for internal security under the Ministry of Home Affairs. 
ii.CRPF was constituted as Crown Representative Police in 1939, it is one of the oldest Central paramilitary forces. 
iii.After the Independence of India, the force was renamed as the Central Reserve Police Force by an Act of Parliament on December 28, 1949.
iv.The CRPF Rules as envisaged in CRPF Act were framed in 1955 and published in the Gazette of India dated 25th March 1955. 
v.V.G.Kanetkar was appointed as 1st Director General(DG) of CRPF.

i.To enable the government to maintain the Rule of Law, Public Order and Internal Security effectively and efficiently, 
ii.To Preserve National Integrity 
iii.To Promote Social Harmony and Development by upholding the supremacy of the Constitution.

Uttarakhand CM launches ‘Corruption-Free Uttarakhand App-1064’Uttarakhand CM launches 'Corruption-Free Uttarakhand App-1064'The Vigilance department of Uttarakhand has developed an anti-corruption mobile app, ‘Corruption-Free Uttarakhand App- 1064’. The app was formally inaugurated by the Chief Minister (CM), Pushkar Singh Dhami. 

  •  It aims to make the state corruption-free and ensure good  governance  carried out in a transparent manner. 
  • The app will be available in both Hindi and English.

Key points:
i.The user can register his/her complaint using the app or by making a call on 1064 number.This number is received from the Government of India.
All  complaints would be registered on the app and the whole data would be kept safe.
ii.If the complaints received on the app are not related to the Vigilance department then it will be forwarded promptly to the CM helpline and the department concerned. 
iii.Strict action will  be taken against the corrupt employees and swift disposal of all complaints will be ensured.
