CSIR-NIO of Goa (Council of Scientific & Industrial Research-National Institute of Oceanography) & CSIR-NGRI of Hyderabad (National Geophysical Research Institute) virtually signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with V.I. Il’Ichev Pacific Oceanological Institute, Far Eastern Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences (POI FEB RAS) in the field of Marine Sciences and Technology.
i.The MoU was signed virtually by Dr. Vyacheslav B. Lobanov, Director of POI FEB RAS with Professor Sunil Kumar Singh, Director of CSIR-NIO & Dr Virendra M. Tiwari, Director of CSIR-NGRI.
ii.POI is the largest research institution in FEB of Russian Academy of Sciences with 31 research units consisting of modern scale devices.
Components of the Agreement:
i.The MoU will enable Scientists from both countries to increase capacity & skill development in the field of marine sciences & Technology.
ii.Sharing of Knowledge & expertise in the field of sustainable development for development of National Economic Interests of both countries.
iii.Research & Development of Technology in the areas of
- Geo-resources, Spatial variation of geophysical fields, marine geology, paleogeography, environment & climate change, physical oceanography, biological oceanography, hydrochemistry, hydrosphere, development of oceanographic equipment, calibration and validation.
iv.It will also strengthen cooperation between the two countries in combating ocean pollution and climate changes.
v.It will also organize scientific expeditions for search, study and monitoring of ocean resources and environment based on methods like sampling of seabed sediments, rocks & minerals, and advanced geological/geophysical techniques.
