Crown prince Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah becomes Kuwait's new ruling emirOn September 30, 2020 Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah(83 years old), Crown prince of Kuwait(State of Kuwait) sworn in as new emir( 16th Emir of Kuwait) during a session of the National Assembly in Kuwait. He succeeds Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah (91 years old), who died on September 29, 2020 in the United States.

Note– The Emir of Kuwait is the commander-in-chief of all defense forces and the Crown Prince is the deputy commander.

About Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah

i.He is one of the most senior serving members of the House of Sabah and has been serving Kuwait for over 58 years in various responsibilities, namely Minister of defense, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor among others.

ii.He was elevated from the post Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister to First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister.

iii.He was nominated as Crown Prince on 7 February 2006.

About Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah

i.He served as the foreign minister and also as an acting minister of finance.

ii.He was the prime minister and de facto ruler(who assumed authority, regardless of whether by lawful, constitutional, or legitimate means).

iii.He served as the first deputy prime minister while serving as foreign minister.

iv.He became the emir of Kuwait in January 2006.

v.He was considered as the architect of modern foreign policy of Kuwait.

The Emir of the State of Kuwait is the monarch, head of state and head of government of Kuwait, the most powerful office in the country.

The emirs of Kuwait are the members of the Al-Sabah dynasty, which originated from the Bani Utbah; a federation of clans in the Arabian Peninsula.
