Congress Leader Anand Sharma and Eight other members take affirmation of allegiance in RajyaSabha

Senior Congress Leader Anand Sharma and 8 other members recently reelected as RajyaSabha Members took oath to the constitution

Nine Members

1. Anand Sharma – Congress party Senior Leader reelected to the Council of States from Himachal Pradesh.He took the affirmation before the Chairman Hamid Ansari.
2. Congress Leader Pratap Singh Bajwa from Punjab who was elected by the party after Amrinder Singh
3. NareshGujral – SAD from Punjab
4. Shamsher Singh Dullo – Congress from Punjab
5. Shwatt Malik – BJP party from Punjab
6. Ripun Bora – Congress party from Assam
7. RaneeNarah – Congress party from Assam
8. K Somaprasad – CPM from Kerala
9. Jharna Das Baidya – CPM from Tripura

All the 8 Rajya Members took Affirmation of Allegiance before the Chairman to the Constitution.

Chairman Ansari views:

• Extended a cordial welcome to reelected and newly elected members
• Looked forward to their valuable contribution to the functioning of Parliament

About the Rajya Sabha or upper house:

• The maximum members of Rajya Sabha are 250 whereas currently 245 are elected.
• In which 233 members are elected by state and territorial legislatures using single transferable vote and remaining 12 are nominated by the President.
