The 21st Session of India-Italy Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation (JCEC) held virtually in July 2021 and it was Co-chaired by Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Luigi Di Maio, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy.
Key points:
i.Piyush Goyal has discussed the issues regarding – the Mutual recognition of the COWIN Vaccine Certificate, opening up of Travel restrictions, longer duration of Business Visas, and the Portability of social security benefits of Indians working in Italy.
ii.The progress on the outcomes of the India-European Union(EU) leaders’ Summit in Porto, Portugal was reviewed in the session.
iii.Under the session, 3 Indian companies (Indian Oil Corporation, Adani Solar, ReNew Power) made presentations along with 3 Italian companies (Enel Green Power, Snam, Maire Tecnimont) on the areas of green economy, clean technology, and promotion of use of renewable energy.
iv.Both the country reiterated the vision laid down under the Plan of Action adopted on 6th November 2020 to promote energy transition, leveraging technology, and climate partnership.
v.Bilateral trade and investment, market access issues and non-tariff barriers, and economic cooperation in the areas of food processing, textiles, leather, railways, start-ups and promotion of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) were also discussed in the session.
Note – The 20th JCEC was held in February 2019 in NewDelhi.
