On 13th November 2020, Kota Srinivasa Poojary, Karnataka’s Minister for Fisheries, Inland Transport Department and Muzrai launched the “Kadalu App” to support and help the fishermen. He launched the app at the Fishing Awareness programme held in Moodukudu, Krishnapura, near Udupi.
The app was conceptualised and developed by Coastal Security Police for the Department of Fisheries, Government of Karnataka.
About Kadalu App:
i.The Kadalu app will support the fishermen to submit the information about their arrival and departure from the fishing harbors through their smartphones.
ii.This will support the Coastal Security Police to keep count on the number of fishing boats in deep sea and speed up the search and rescue operations in case of any turbulent weather.
Features:
i.The user leaving on registered fishing boats can post the details of the members onboard and upload their group photos before leaving the harbour.
ii.The app will also provide weather forecasts and updates to the fishermen.
iii.This will also provide the data on the places where the availability of fishes is high.
Additional info:
i.More than 2000 fishing boats in Udupi and 1200 fishing boats in Mangalore harbour are registered under this app.
ii.Fishing boats including the traditional boats of Uttara Kannada are also registered under this app.
iii.The information of all these boats are stored into this application.
