On May 28, 2020, Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET) was renamed as Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology. CIPET is a premier national institution under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India (GOI).
Key Points:
i.The changed name has been registered under the Tamil Nadu (TN) Societies Registration Act 1975 (TN Act 27 of 1975).
ii.DV Sadananda Gowda, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, added that at-present CIPET will be in a position to fully devote itself for the growth of the entire petrochemical sector with a focus on Academics, Skilling, Technology Support and Research.Â
iii.Objective: The primary objective of CIPET is to contribute the growth towards the plastics industry through a combined program of education and research.Â
iv.The Institute is creating closer ties with industries with the intent to create innovative plastic based solutions which are resource efficient & marketable.
v.Initiatives of CIPET in the areas of healthcare to deal COVID-19: CIPET is to take up Research and Development ( R&D) initiatives in the areas of Health Care, like Manufacturing and Certifying PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and other relevant products as per WHO (World Health Organisation) & ISO (International Organization for Standardization) guidelines.
