Dr Chintan Vaishnav will replace Ramanathan Ramanan to become the new Mission Director of Niti Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) from mid-April 2021. Ramanathan Ramanan is the 1st mission director of AIM since June 2017.
Dr Vaishnav holds a PhD in technology, management, and policy from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
i.At present he is teaching & researching on tackling challenges at the intersection of technology and systems, development, and public policy.
About Atal Innovation Mission:
Aim – To create a problem-solving innovative mindset among students by creating an ecosystem of entrepreneurship in universities, research institutions in collaboration with the private & MSME sector.
Launched by NITI Aayog in 2016.
Initiatives:
Atal Tinkering Lab – Total of 7259 Atal Tinkering Labs were established in schools across 650 districts
Atal Incubation Center – Creating World Class Incubators for startups & Entrepreneurs in Universities, currently 68 Incubation centers are operational. Established over 2000 Start-ups of which 625 are led by Women.
Mentor India – Mentorship and Partnerships programs between Public, Private sector, NGOs, Academia, Institutions.
Atal New India Challenge – 24 challenges in partnership with 5 ministries were launched to create National Socio-Economic Impact projects.
Atal Community Innovation Centre -To promote technology led innovation in the unserved/underserved regions of India including Tier 2, Tier 3 cities, aspirational districts, tribal & coastal areas.
Aatmanirbhar Bharat ARISE – ARISE ANIC challenge is aimed to promote innovation in MSME/Start-up sector.
