14th November (birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru) is celebrated as children’s day all over the India. The Day marks the birth date of the first Indian Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was a great leader of India born on 4th of November in the year 1889 to the renowned lawyer, Mr. Motilal Nehru and Swaroop Rani in the Allahabad. Because of being very brilliant he was named as Jawaharlal.
- He became the Prime Minister of India just after the independence of India. The Children’s Day is celebrated every year to let the people aware about the importance of celebrating this day. The birthday of Chacha Nehru, a great Indian leader, is celebrated as Children’s Day.
- He worked great for the well being of children as well as youngsters after the independence of India. He worked so much for the education, progress and welfare of the children of India. He was very affectionate towards children and became famous as Chacha Nehru among them.
- For the progress and development of the youth of India, he had established various educational institutions such as Indian Institutes of Technology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Indian Institutes of Management.
- He made a five year plan which includes free primary education, free meals including milk to the school children in order to prevent children from malnutrition in India.
- The deep love and affection of Chacha Nehru towards the children is the big reason of celebrating the Children’s Day at his birthday anniversary.
President Gave Away 42 Awards On Children’s Day
On the occasion of Children’s day President Pranab Mukherjee gave away 42 awards to children as well as child welfare institutions, for their outstanding achievements. Union Minster of Women and Child Development, Maneka Sanjay Gandhi was also present on the occasion.
The awards were given in three categories namely
- National Child Awards for Exceptional Achievements
- National Awards for Child Welfare and
- Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Awards.
The recipients of Award would include
- Paralympics swimmer,
- A chess player,
- An equestrian
- Students with keen interest in music and
- Those who have added several technological innovations to their name.
About The Award
The National Child Awards for Exceptional Achievements would be conferred to the children in the age group of 5 to 18 years and would include one gold medal and 30 silver medals.
- The Gold medallist would be awarded a cheque of Rs 20,000 and cheque amounted to Rs 10,000 each would be given to the silver medalists.
- National Awards for Child Welfare will be given to five institutions and three individuals. It comprises cash a prize of Rs 3,00,000 to each institution and Rs 1,00,000 to each individual.
- The Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Award 2016, will be given to three persons with a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000, along with a certificate and a silver plaque.
Odisha Boy Awarded by President On Children’s Day
14 year old Shubhendu Kumar Sahu, a class 7th student of Somapur Project Upper primary School in Ganjam district’s Hinjili received the National Child Awards for Exceptional Achievement from the President for his various achievements.
- He has been taking part in several extra-curricular activities and received a number of awards both at the state and national level competitions.
- The young boy has developed a science project “Gift For Farmers” an innovative device that enables in sowing, tilling of soil, sprinkling of pesticides, cutting and processing of paddy crops.
- He also ranked first at the state level creative writing competition held at bhubneshwar last year.
Other than Shubhendu Sahu other children to receive this National Child Awards for Exceptional Achievement, 2016, were
- 16-year old Kumari Revathi Nayka M, a paralympic swimmer, was awarded with Gold Medal for her excellence in the field of sports.
- Nine-year-old Dev Shah, a chess player, was the youngest to be awarded for his excellence in the field of sports.
Second edition of National children’s film festival begins in Jaipur
The second edition of National children’s film festival (NCFF) began in Jaipur on the occasion of the children’s day.THE Theme of the second edition of NCFF is “Make in India”
- The 3-day film festival aims to showcase films made in India for the purpose of expanding the children’s film market in India and abroad.
- Children Film Society of India (CFSI) will screen around 40 films including many of the award-winning movies such as “Gopi Gawaiya Bagha Bajaiyaa”, “Kima’s Lode”, “Budhia Singh” (On the run) among others.
- Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore along with chairman of CFSI, Dr. Shravan Kumar, CEO, CFSI inaugurated the festival at Birla Auditorium, Jaipur
- The second edition of NCFF, will display films in 12 theaters in Jaipur in three days where children can enjoy the films.
