The Indian Grandmaster (GM) Vidit Santosh Gujrathi won the 3rd edition of Federation Internationale des Echecs(FIDE) Grand Swiss 2023 title held from the 23rd of October to the 6th of November 2023 in the Villa Marina, Douglas, Isle of Man.
- International Master (IM)Vaishali Rameshbabu won the 2nd edition of FIDE Women’s Grand Swiss 2023 title.

Player Qualified for the FIDE Candidates Tournament:
i.This tournament provides an opportunity for the top two players in the open event to qualify for the 2024 FIDE Candidates Tournament and the top two players in the Women’s Grand Swiss to qualify for the 2024 Women’s Candidates which is set to be held in Canada in 2024.
- The eight-player ‘Candidates Tournament’ is the final event in the World Championship cycle in which the winner of the Candidates will play with the reigning world champion in the championship match.
ii.With this win, Vidit Gujrathi qualified for the Candidates Tournament. He became the second Indian after R. Praggnanandhaa to qualify for this tournament.
iii.Being secured the top position Vaishali also qualified for the Candidates Tournament.
- She along with her younger brother Praggnanandhaa became the first brother-sister duo to qualify for the respective Candidates tournament.
iv.Having secured a second position in this tournament, Hikaru Nakamura (United States) qualified for the candidates.
- Since Anna Muzychuk (Ukraine) already qualified, bronze medallist Tan Zhongyi(China) qualified for the women candidates tournament.
About the FIDE Grand Swiss:
i.The first edition of the Grand Swiss was held in 2019 in the Isle of Man and was won by GM Wang Hao(China) While the first edition of the Women’s Grand Swiss was only held in 2021 and was won by GM Lei Tingjie (China).
