Boeing launches its first Global Support Center in India, also announces investment in new logistics centerOn February 13, 2022, The Boeing Company, an aerospace company based in the United States of America(USA), launched its first Global Support Center (GSC) in India at Gurugram,Haryana,  which will offer customized operational efficiency and safety improvementprojects for Boeing’s airline customers, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.

  • It will also transfer knowledge to enhance safety and efficiency for airline partners in India.

About Boeing’s GSC India:

i.For operational improvements, GSC will work with operators and regulators on structures and airworthiness; the Maintenance Error Decision Aid (MEDA), a human-factors tool; Air Traffic Management (ATM); aerospace optimization; and low visibility operation through Head-Up Display (HUD) and Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS).

ii.It will conduct technical workshops and projects to support aircraft reliability, enhance airplane performance, and encourage the adoption of Airplane Health Management (AHM) systems.

iii.The Center will also conduct flight operations symposiums, engineering seminars, and continue the development of new technology.

Through the Boeing India Repair Development and Sustainment (BIRDS) hub program, Boeing is supporting local customers by creating an ecosystem of comprehensive support packages and indigenous Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities.

Boeing to invest in a New Logistics Centre in India

It also plans to invest in a new logistics center to cater to its regional customers. In the initial phase of the operations, the India logistics centre will focus on supporting airline customers. In the second phase, it would cater to the larger network of Boeing’s customers in the region.

Point to be noted:

i.Indian civil aviation sector is all set to become the world’s third largest passenger market after the U.S. and China.

ii.The fleet of Indian airlines is projected to nearly quadruple in size by 2041 compared to 2019.

iii.Currently, India operates a fleet of Boeing aircraft, including 11 C-17s, 22 AH-64 Apaches (with an additional 6 on order), 15 CH-47 Chinooks, 12 P-8Is, 3 VVIP aircraft, and 2 Head of State aircraft.

Boeing University Innovation Leadership Development Program 2022-23 winners announced

Seven teams comprising university students and early stage start-up entrepreneurs became the winners of Boeing University Innovation Leadership Development (BUILD) program 2022-23.

The seven winning teams are as follows:

i. SpaceFields Pvt Ltd from the Society for Innovation and Development (SID) – Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, Karnataka.

ii. HEM Dimensions Pvt Ltd from SID – IISC Bengaluru

iii. Scavengex from Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Madras Incubation Cell, Chennai, Tamil Nadu

iv. CeraTattva InnoTech Pvt Ltd from IIT (Indian Institutes of Technology) Madras Incubation Cell

v. Modulo EV from the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) – IIT Delhi, Delhi

vi. SAP Aerospace from FITT – IIT Delhi

vii. Galanto Innovations Pvt Ltd Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (IIEC) – IIT Gandhinagar, Gujarat

Key Points:

i.Winners will be supported by Boeing and the respective incubator partner for over 6 months, to help develop their ideas into viable business solutions.

ii.Each of these seven teams received Rs 10 lakh as cash prize.

iii.The applicants were invited to submit ideas in the fields of mobility, space, connectivity, Industry 4.0 technology, enterprise digital solutions, sustainability, and data analytics/AI.

Boeing partnered with seven incubators, namely, Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship – IIT Mumbai (Maharashtra), Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer – IIT Delhi, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center – IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Madras Incubation Cell, Society for Innovation and Development – IISC Bengaluru, T-Hub Hyderabad, and Technology Business Incubator – KIIT Bhubaneshwar to launch BUILD in India.
