Bangladesh Tour of India Test Series 2024The Bangladesh cricket team captained by Najmul Hossain Shanto are touring India in September and October 2024 to play against India. The tour includes 2 Test matches and 3 Twenty20 International (T20I) matches.

  • Indian Men’s Cricket team captained by Rohit Sharma won the Two-match test series against Bangladesh (2-0).
  • This marks Team India’s 180th win in Test history.
  • With this, India secured the 4th Place in the list of most Test wins. the list is topped by Australia (414) followed by England (397) and West Indies (183).

Result of the Test Series: 

i.On 19th September 2024, India won the 1st Test match held in MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, Tamil Nadu by 280 runs 

  • Player of the Match– Ravichandran Ashwin (India)

ii.On 27th September 2024, the 2nd Test match was held in Green Park Stadium, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh(UP) by 7 wickets. 

  • Player of the Match– Yashasvi Jaiswal (India)

iii.The Test series formed part of the 2023–2025 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Test Championship.

iv.All players won Prize Money of Rs 1 Lakh and a Trophy.

Player of the Series:

i.Ravichandran Ashwin won the Player of the Series award for his impressive performance with both bat and ball in the two-match India vs Bangladesh Test 2024. He received a cash prize of Rs 2.5 Lakh and Trophy.

  • This marks his 11th Player-of-the-Series award in Test cricket. He matched the record of Muttiah Muralitharan(Sri Lanka) for the most Player-of-the-Series awards in Test cricket.

R Ashwin becomes the Indian bowler with the most Test wickets in Asia: 

i.During the 2nd Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur, Ashwin claimed the wicket of Najmul Hossain Shanto, taking his tally to 420 wickets in Asia.  In 102 Test matches, he has taken a total of 523 wickets.

  • With this, he surpassed the record for most test wickets in Asia held by Anil Kumble, who had 419 wickets in Asia.
  • Muttiah Muralitharan, holds the record for the most Test wickets in Asia. He has taken 612 wickets out of his overall 800 wicket haul in Asia.

ii.During the Test Series against Bangladesh,  Ravichandran Ashwin became the first ever cricketer in the 147-year history of Test cricket to score 20+ fifty-plus runs and 30+ 5-wicket hauls in Test Cricket.

Ravindra Jadeja becomes seventh Indian to take 300 Test wickets

i.Ravindra Jadeja has become the 7th Indian to take 300 Test wickets in the Test Match against Bangladesh.

ii.The other Indian bowlers who have taken 300 Test wickets or more include table leader Anil Kumble (619), R Ashwin (524), Kapil Dev (434), Harbhajan Singh (417), Ishant Sharma (311) and Zaheer Khan (311).

iii.With his milestone in his 74th match, Jadeja also became the second quickest to complete the double of 300 wickets and 3000 runs in Test cricket behind England’s Ian Botham.

iv.In One-Day Internationals (ODIs), he has scored 2,756 runs and taken 220 wickets and in T20 Internationals (T20Is), he has achieved 515 runs and claimed 54 wickets.

Virat Kohli becomes fastest to hit 27,000 international runs;  surpasses Sachin

Virat Kohli became the fastest batsman to reach 27,000 international runs, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record during the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur.

  • He surpassed the previous record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who achieved this feat of completing 27,000 runs in 623 innings.
  • Kohli achieved the milestone in just 594 innings and is the only player in cricket history ever to finish 27000 international runs in under 600 innings.

iii.Sri Lanka’s former skipper Kumar Sangakkara achieved the feat in 648 innings and the Australian skipper Ricky Pointing achieved the feat in 650 innings.
