Union Home Ministry gave approval for the state to revert the names of their cities and towns to old Kannada names, after the proposal made by the state 9 years ago.
India’s technology capital and also India’s Silicon Valley Bangalore will be formally known as Bengaluru from November 1st, the Birthday of the state.
The cities that formally going to get new names are,
- Bangalore – Bengaluru
- Mysore – Mysuru
- Belgaum – Belagavi
- Mangalore – Mangaluru
- Gulbarga – Kalaburagi
- Hubli – Hubballi
- Shimoga – Shivamogga
- Chikmagalur – Chikkamagaluru
- Bellary – Ballari
- Bijapur – Vijapura or Vijayapura
- Hospet – Hosapete
- Tumkur – Tumakuru
