Azim Premji tops the list EdelGiveHurun India Philanthropy List 2020 new

On 10th November 2020, the Hurun India and EdelGive Foundation released the 7th edition of the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2020. Azim Premji, the founder and Chairman of Wipro topped the 2020 list.  Azim Premji became India’s Most Generous man with a donation of Rs.7904 crores.  The list featured the individuals who have donated Rs.5 crores and more during the review period (from 1st April 2019 to 31st March 2020).

Azim Premji is followed by Shiv Nadar, Founder-Chairman of HCL Technologies and Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries at 2nd & 3d position respectively.

Women in the 2020 list:

7 women have secured their position in the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2020.

With a donation of Rs.47 crores, Rohini Nilekani wife of Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani became India’s most generous woman followed by Anu Aga & family of Thermax who donated Rs. 36 crore and Kiran Mazumdar Shaw of Biocon who donated Rs. 34 crores.

Youngest Philanthropist:

i.With a donation of Rs. 5.3 crores, Binny Bansal (37 years old), co-founder and Former CEO of Flipkart became the youngest philanthropist to enter the Edelgive Hurun India Philanthropy List.

ii.He is the only person under the age of 40 on the list.

Key Points:

i.The list featured 112 people which is 12% higher than the 2019 edition. The average age of the donors is 66 years.

ii.The 7th edition of the list featured 28 new entrants which includes SD Shibulal, co-founder and former CEO of Infosys with a donation of Rs.32 crore and Amit and Archana Chandra of ATE Chandra Foundation with a donation of Rs.27 crores.

iii.With cumulative donation of Rs.9324 cores donation from 90 philanthropists, Education is the most favoured cause and the Healthcare sector accounted for a 111% increase in the cumulative donations followed by disaster relief & management with Rs.354 crores.

iv.With a donation of Rs.276 Crore, Kumar Mangalam Birla, 53, of Aditya Birla Group debuts the Top 5 & is the Youngest in Top 10
