On December 10, 2019 the health ministry announced that over 65 lakh patients were treated under the Centre’s flagship Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) ever since its launch till december 5, 2019. The treatment costs were worth Rs. 9,549 crores.Key Points:
i.Out of the total 65,45,733 patients, treatment amounting to Rs 6,133 crore was provided to 35,34,695 patients through private hospitals.
ii.2019-20 AB-PMJAY budget: A total Rs 1,013.76 crore has been released under the AB-PMJAY for the financial year 2019-20. For 2018-19 the amount released was Rs. 1849.55 crore.
iii.Four states, Delhi, Telangana, Odisha and West Bengal have not adopted this scheme yet.
iv.Central and state govt contribution: Under the health insurance scheme, the centre and state govt’s ratio of contribution towards premium is 60:40 in all the states except the northeast and the Himalayan region. In northeast and Himalayan region alone, the centre and state contribution ratio is 90:10.
- Contribution to UT: The central govt contributes 100% premium for Union Territories(UT) without legislature and 60% to UTs with legislature. The premium contribution will be decided by the government from time to time.
v.It is also to be noted that AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa and Homoeopathy) treatment packages will not be covered in the scheme.

Fact1- Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) is a centrally sponsored national health protection scheme under Ayushman Bharat Mission anchored in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
Fact2- The scheme is for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization to cover over 10.74 crores poor and vulnerable families.
Fact3- The AB aims to create 1,50,000 HWCs (Health and Wellness Centres) by financial year 2022.
Health coverage- health cover of Rs. 5 lakh per family per year is provided under the scheme.
