Ayushman-Bharat-Diwas-2021Ayushman Bharat Diwas is annually celebrated across India on 30th April to promote affordable medical facilities in the remote parts of India.

The day aims to promote health and wellness and provide the benefits of insurance to the poor.

Ayushman Bharat Yojana:

i.Ayushman Bharat is a flagship scheme of the Government which was launched as recommended by the National Health Policy 2017, with an aim to achieve Universal Health Coverage(UHC).

ii.The Ayushman Bharat comprises 2 interrelated components

  • Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs)
  • Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY)

Health and Wellness Centres(HWCs):

i.In 2018 the government announced the establishment of 1.5 lakh Health and Wellness Centres(HWCs) by transforming the existing sub centres and primary health centres.

ii.The Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) is delivered through these HWCs.

CPHC covers both maternal and child health services, non-communicable diseases including free essential drugs and diagnostics services.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY):

i.The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 23rd September 2018 in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

ii.The  Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) is the world’s largest health assurance scheme.

iii.PMJAY aims to provide a health cover of Rs 5 lakhs per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization across private and public hospitals in India.

iv.PMJAY benefits more than 10.74 crore poor and vulnerable families (the bottom 40% of the Indian population).

Benefits:

i.The benefits of the government-funded health insurance schemes in India are structured with an upper limit ranging from an annual cover of Rs. 30000 to 3 lakh per family.

ii.The cover under the scheme includes the expenses like

  • Medical examination, treatment and consultation
  • Pre-hospitalization
  • Medicine and medical consumables
  • Non-intensive and intensive care services

Additional Info:

i.In January 2021, Amit Shah, Union Minister for Home Affairs(MHA) launched the “Ayushman CAPF” scheme for the personnel of Central Armed Police Forces(CAPF) and dependants.

ii.The scheme will be fully implemented by 1st May 2021.

iii.In March 2021, Santosh Gangwar, Minister of State for Labour & Employment launched the convergence of Employees State Insurance (ESI) scheme with Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY in 113 districts across 4 states with an aim to ensure easy access to medical care.
