Airports Authority of India (AAI) has commenced Aviation Safety Awareness Week 2020 from 23rd November to 27th November 2020 to raise awareness on Aviation Safety. The week will be celebrated across all airports and ANS(Air Navigation Service) locations managed by AAI across India.

Zero fatality by 2030
During the virtual inauguration, Maneesh Kumar DDG(Deputy Director General), DGCA(Directorate General of Civil Aviation) highlighted to achieve the long term objective of Zero fatality by 2030, that was envisioned by ICAO(International Civil Aviation Organization) in its Global Aviation Safety Plan (GASP-2020-22).
It will be achieved through better managed safety systems of stakeholders.
Programs of Aviation Safety Awareness Week 2020:
i.In order to raise awareness on Aviation Safety, AAI will undertake many employee engagement programs like reviewing documents and facilities, Mock exercises, preventive maintenance etc. at the airports and ANS stations.
ii.Many social campaigns will also be launched in this regard.
iii.In order to educate external and internal stakeholders about the significance of the Safety Awareness Week, Banners and posters are displayed across AAI offices and operations centers.
iv.Airport Directors will organize awareness programmes in school/colleges on the role of local residents in aviation safety, to create awareness among surrounding community about their role to ensure safety of aircraft operation in local airport

Through this week, AAI reaffirms its commitment to aviation safety in coherence with Global and Regional Safety Plans.
Points to be Noted
i.Recently, AAI has handed over the Mangaluru airport to the Adani group on lease for a period of 50 years.
ii.AAI has planned to develop at least 100 Airports, Waterdromes, Heliports under UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik)-Regional Air Connectivity Scheme by 2024.
