Weng Hong Yang beats HS Prannoy lift the title Australian Open Super 500 badminton titleIndia’s Prannoy Haseena Sunil Kumar settled to silver medal in the men’s singles after losing the finals against China’s Weng Hong Yang at the Sathio Group Australian Open 2023(Australian Open 2023) held at the state sports centre in Sydney, Australia from 1st to 6th August 2023.

  • HSBC Badminton World Federation(BWF) Australian Open 2023 is the World Tour Super 500 tournament.

Highlights:

i.Men’s Singles: China’s Weng Hong Yang won the men’s singles title defeating India’s HS Prannoy.

  • HS Prannoy defeated Priyanshu Rajawat (India) in semi-finals to enter 2023 Australian Open finals .
  • Previously, Prannoy defeated Weng Hong Yang in the finals of Malaysia Masters Super 500 in May 2023 to win his first BWF World Tour title.

i.Women’s singles:Chinese born American Beiwen Zhang won the women’s singles title by defeating Kim Ga Eun of South Korea.

  • She won her previous BWF title at the 2018 India Open against PV Sindhu.

ii.Men’s Doubles:South Korea’s Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae won the men’s doubles by defeating Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi of Japan.

  • This marks their second BWF title in 2023 after the Malaysia masters.

iii.Women’s Doubles:South Korea’s Kim So Yeong and Kong Hee Yong won the women’s doubles title by defeating  Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning of China.

  • This was their 4th title in 2023 including All England Open, Thailand Open, Japan Open, Australian open.

iv.Mixed Doubles:China’s Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping won the mixed doubles by defeating Hiroki Midorikawa and Natsu Saito of Japan.

  • This marks their 5th title in 2023 including Indonesian Masters, Thailand Masters, German Open, Korea Open, and Australian Open.
