Atal Innovation Mission partnered with Nasscom to launch AI-based module in 5000 ATLs

NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) has collaborated with Nasscom (National Association of Software and Services Companies) to launch the artificial intelligence (AI) based module including AI kits across 5000 Atal Tinkering Labs for the beneficial of 2.5 million students in the country from February 27, 2020 so that students can get for better knowledge of AI.  Additionally, an AI Step-up Module is under development that is to be launched as next step.

  • This curriculum will make available technologies to school students from one of the top partner companies including Adobe, SAP Labs, Microsoft, Wipro and Nasscom among others.

Need for AI Learing
It has been estimated that by 2030, the global market in AI is likely to be in the range of 15 to 15.5 trillion dollars, out of which India’s share will be close to a trillion. Also, India can add 1.3% to its GDP on an annual basis through the use of machine learning and AI.

What is AIM?
It is Government of India’s flagship initiative to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the country. Its objective is to develop new programs for fostering innovation in different sectors and to create an umbrella structure to oversee innovation ecosystem of the country.

What are ATLs?
Established under AIM in schools across India, its objective is to foster curiosity, creativity and imagination in young minds. ATL is a work space of 1200-1500 square feet for school students from Class 6 to Class 12, allowing them to work with tools and equipment to understand the concepts of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). These labs are set up through grant-in-aid of Rs. 20 Lakh to each school by AIM.

  • Apart from ATL there are Atal Incubation Centres (AICs), Atal New India Challenge (ANIC), Mentor of Change Program, Atal Community Innovation Center, and Atal Research & Innovation for Small Enterprises (ARISE) (Coming Soon) under AIM foster innovation.
