On 11th August, 2020 NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) in collaboration with Dell Technologies has launched the 2nd edition of Student Entrepreneurship Program (SEP 2.0) for young innovators of Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs).
Objective of SEP: To accelerate the entrepreneurial journey of young innovators who can play a major role in creating a new innovative India.
Key Points:
i.The second edition was launched in the presence of Dr Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog; Alok Ohrie, President and MD, Dell Technologies; R. Ramanan, Mission Director, AIM; and Dr Anjlee Prakash, Chairperson, Learning Links Foundation.
ii.The Programme’s association with Dell Technologies will help student innovators to work closely with Dell Volunteers.
iii.Under the program the student volunteers will receive mentor support, prototyping and testing support; end-user feedback; intellectual property registration and patenting of ideas, processes, and products; manufacturing support; as well as the launch support of the product in the market.
Student Entrepreneurship Program (SEP 1.0)
i.In January, 2019 under the SEP 1.0 top six innovations of the country from Atal Tinkering Labs were selected.
ii.The selected teams went through a 10-month Student Entrepreneurship Programme with DELL to transform their innovative prototypes into fully functioning products which are ready to go to the market.
iii.The innovations were selected in key social sectors of agritech, healthcare, clean energy, smart mobility, waste management and water resources.
Atal Tinkering Labs:
i.ATLs are dedicated innovation workspaces of do-it-yourself (DIY) kits on latest technologies like 3D Printers, Robotics, Internet of Things (IOT), Miniaturized electronics are installed.
ii.Students from Grade VI to Grade XII can tinker with these technologies and learn to create innovative solutions using these technologies.
iii.In ATLs, the Children will get a chance to work with tools and equipment to understand concepts of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
Financial Support
i.AIM will provide a grant of Rs. 20 Lakh to each school that includes a one-time establishment cost of Rs. 10 lakh and operational expenses of Rs. 10 lakh for a maximum period of 5 years to each ATL.
