Assam govt develops new mobile app named 'visitassam' for air passengers

On 25th September 2020, Minister for Health and Family Welfare of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Government of Assam developed a mobile app named “Visitassam” for air passengers from other states. Visitassam enables the air passengers to download forms and fill it which can be used at the airports to reduce the time spent on the formalities for COVID-19 tests and ensures the proper social distancing among the passengers.

Tatkal RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction):

i.The government also introduced a change of protocol for the air passengers to take the Tatkal RT-PCR test with a payment of Rs.2200 whose result will be given within 24 hours.

ii.The home quarantine period will be only 24 hours for the passengers whose Tatkal RT-PCR result is negative.

iii.The Tatkal RT-PCR facility is available only in Guwahati.

Note:

The free RT-PCR facility is still available whose result will be available in 3 to 5 days and the passengers tested negative will be under home quarantine for 10 days.

Key Points:

i.The Government has also relaxed their quarantine rules for both rail and air travelers from other states after their recovery from infection.

ii.The passengers should be asymptomatic, they should have the required Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) certificate and discharge certificate.

iii.More than 3000 Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers are working on awareness programmes on the needs of wearing masks and social distancing.

i.On August 12, 2020, Finance Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sharma announced that the Government of Assam will roll out the ‘Orunodoi’ Scheme, which will provide Financial Assistance of Rs. 830 per month through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme to around 17 Lakh Families in the state.
